Why We Love Devon

Devon is famed for it's charming towns and villages and of course the glorious beaches and coastline.  But when it comes to fun family days out where are the best places to go.  We have researched a number of Devon attractions and we think the ones below represent great value for money as well as providing a fun and memorable family day out.

North Devon has much to offer both families and couples looking for a relaxing holiday in idyllic surroundings. North Devon in particular has plenty of holiday parks to choose from both by the coast and in the Devon Countryside. For a lively and entertaining holiday park Bideford Bay and Ruda Holiday parks are recommended. If you are looking for something more peaceful then head for Whipcott Water country cottages which are part of the Autograph lodge holiday collection.

South Devon is a fantastic choice for a holiday with many holidaymakers returning year after year.  There is just so much to do in this region from relaxing on the glorious beaches to exploring the local towns and villages.  Family attractions are also in abundance with the option of theme parks, zoos and arts and crafts to enjoy.  If you enjoy outdoor activities then South Devon is a real delight where you can enjoy horse riding, walking, cycling and sailing right on the doorstep.

Fun Days Out in Devon

This is a really lively park packed with fun and thrilling rides for all ages.  Some of the highlights include the newest addition - the vortex water coaster and the the exhilarating Tidal Wave log flume.  We also love the "Wilderness" area where you can actually feed deers and admire the tree houses.  Located in the Exeter region of Devon this adventure park has something for everyone.

You may have heard of The Big Sheep as it's one of the most popular attractions in Devon.  Suited to families with children of all ages this place is both fun and educational.  Kids will love running around and playing in the playground and everyone can learn things at the regular sheepy shows.  Sheep racing, bottle feeding and duck trails are just some of the delights to experience.  Adults will also enjoy The Big Sheep with a garden centre and brewery on site too.  This is an all weather attraction with a difference.

Located in Exeter this is the latest craze where you actually get to climb, swing and explore right up in the treetops.  The experience lasts for three hours and there are plenty of rope bridges and Tarzan swings along the way.  This popular attraction can get very busy in high season and booking ahead is recommended.

This is an excellent attraction in the Sidmouth region of Devon and will appeal to children of all ages - as well as adults.  This refuge is famous for rescued Donkeys and you will get the opportunity to see the great work done at the centre as well as visiting the animals themselves.  You can even adopt a Donkey if you choose!

Woodlands Leisure Park is THE place to go on rainy days! The amazing all weather attraction is packed with slides, chutes, ball pools, climbing frames and a circus train ride. If that is not enough there is also a fantastic "Zoo-in-a-Farm" and a reptile house where children will love meeting the creepy crawleys and unusual creatures. Younger children are not left out as they have their own wonderful Ice Palace to enjoy - one of the largest soft play areas in the UK.

Exmoor Zoo is one of the most popular Zoos in the UK and is packed with fun attractions. This Zoo is the only one where visitors are guaranteed to meet the elusive Exmoor Beast face to face. Exmoor Zoo prides itself on being different and offering a more personal touch. Talks and encounter sessions take place every half hour through the summertime making the Zoo and educational day out as well as a fun one.

Bicton Park and Gardens is a fantastic place for a family day out and is especially popular during the summer when the stunnig floral displays are at their best. The park has plenty of things for children to do including a couple of play areas and an 18 hole mini golf course, there is also a football pitch for the more energetic.

The Rock Gardens Caves and Nursery have an amazing setting in the old Palace Quarry. The gardens offer an abundance of trees, plants and floral displays including a very grand 80ft Elm Tree and a stunning Weeping Ash. Lovely views from the site! The caravans were spot on and had everything we needed. We loved the outdoor pool and as we had good weather it was just like being abroad.

I went to Grange Court in the 6 weeks with the wife and kids. Kids loved the water slide and thankfully picked a good week weather wise. The caravan we stayed in seemed really new and clean. Staff were helpful when we needed directions to the zoo. The only thing I would say is that the shop on the park was quite expensive but there is a supermarket not too far away.
