Fun Days Out in Yorkshire Moors and Coast

This York attraction is educational as well as fun as you get to learn all about the Viking-Age city of Jorvik. Archaeologists from York Archaeological Trust revealed the houses, workshops and backyards of the Viking-Age city of Jorvik, as it stood 1,000 years ago.  You get to travel around in a unique state of the art time capsule.  For a more realistic experience you might get a blast of smoke from the blacksmith's furnace.  It is recommended that you book ahead during school holidays as this popular attraction gets very busy.

Madhyamaka Meditation Centre  a unique and very special centre in the Yorkshire moors offering amazing meditation experiences for experts and novices. The beautiful setting really ads to the experience and the gorgeous grounds are abundant with wildlife including Squirrels, Deer and Birds including Red Kites. The centre is now offering a special weekend retreat for families which includes family friendly guided meditations as well as fun activities such as face painting, games and a barbeque.

Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary is an excellent choice for a day trip if you are enjoying a family holiday in the Yorkshire region. A stroll around this fascinating centre takes customers on a journey beneath the waves and allows encounters with many strange, beautiful and fascinating creatures of the deep. Everything from the common starfish to the mighty shark can be seen. The otters, seals and penguins are very popular and feeding time is a real highlight. There are also regular talks and demonstrations throughout the day. Outside there is a children's play area and picnic spot but there is also a restaurant onsite. Family tickets are available at just 46.80 but huge savings available by calling into one of the Tourist Information Centres in Scarborough, Whitby or Filey.
No matter where you are staying in the Yorkshire region a visit to Castle Howard is a must. The magnificent 18th century house has a stunning setting in breathtaking parkland with gorgeous grounds speckled with temples, lakes, statues and fountains. The formal gardens are the perfect place for a stroll and the woodland garden and ornamental vegetable garden feature some beautiful displays. Other attractions include the Great Lake where visitors can take boat trips and the adventure playground where the little ones can run around. The house is also open to the public and guided tours are available. Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic but there are also 3 cafes onsite and 6 shops. An adult ticket for the house and gardens is just 13.

Stayed here a few years ago under previous management, was a little apprehensive this time with taking a 2 year old to accommodation which allows pets as usually cleanliness lets the place down.

Carnaby was almost perfectly clean especially considering pets are aloud to stay, there was no pet hair in site!!

The only suggestions I would make are (please do not let this put you off a holiday here if you are considering it, these are minor points and will not ruin your holiday): Ontop of the fire extinguisher had a small amount of dust gathered and the hot tub chrome handles required cleaning.

The accommodation is very comfortable and my only suggestions would be: A tv in the master bedroom (not essential but a nice extra). A couple of corner protectors could be provided (the cheap rubber ones sold in supermarkets) so that holiday goers could push them onto the corner of the breakfast bar if they have little ones with them - the corners of the breakfast bar are at head height for toddlers and for peace of mind it would be nice to have some edge protectors to put on if needed.

The cottage is light and airy, with comfortable furniture and very comfortable beds. Unfortunately it hadn't been checked over very well. I found that most of the drinking glasses were very dirty. Other than that the place was very clean.

Very quiet and relaxing. Well equipped kitchen, everything you needed. Very warm and cosy, excellent central heating and loads of hot water (it was cold outside at the time). Lovely and clean, nice bedding and towels, would be nice to have had bath sheets. And maybe some low level lighting in the lounge ie. table or floor lamps,
but overall excellent accommodation, will recommend.

We had a lovely four day break at carnaby , and loved it we didn't have any any problems with anything, but I felt confident enough in the manager Jane that had we any problems she would have been happy to sort it, she made that clear on our arrival . She gave us a lovely warm welcome.

Lovely location, nice and quiet, had peacocks in the garden every day

Great location for travelling to Bridlington and Beverley. I would recommend the nearby beach also. Beverley is beautiful and worth a visit. The market is great on a Saturday and the Minster gorgeous. We also found a wonderful pub called the white horse which we had to visit as much as possible! Rusdston has a lovely church and the tallest monolith in the UK...worth a visit. York obviously is great too but we did this on route home. The hot tub was great and the open plan of the bungalow really suited us all.
Mr P
Perfect location, lovely and quiet, apart from the odd donkey noise from the animal park nearby. The decor and utilities are perfect and modern, perfect getaway!
Mr N
This was a really enjoyable, quiet short break away. The accommodation was lovely and we really enjoyed the hot tub after long days visiting local areas such as Bridlington and Scarborough. This is a great base for visiting the Yorkshire coast.
Miss H
We had a fantastic time, the accommodation was perfect!! The setting was quiet and peaceful, just what we were looking for after spending our days exploring the local beaches and towns. The hot tub was a god send for relaxing in, both with the kids and after they went to bed. We would definitely recommend this and would even return their ourselves.
Mr W
Excellent facilities, very helpful staff.
Mr L
Excellent location and ideal accommodation. Close enough to locations with the quietness of being remote.
Mrs G
A lovely relaxing getaway for a few days in a nice location. The hot tub was the highlight at the end of each day after we had explored the area.
Mr B
Very peaceful surroundings, perfect for a quiet getaway, 2.5 miles away from town and entertainment, bars on the way. Great location just out of town, recommended.
Ms D
Quiet, peaceful location away from the traffic and hub of busy life, just what is expected on a relaxing holiday. The hot tub made it even more SPECIAL!!
Mr C
Excellent standard lodge, stayed in other lodges across UK and this met all of our requirements. The staff who welcomed us were very friendly, the lodge was very clean and well equipped and hot tub was fantastic. Lodge 3 miles away from Bridlington and easy access to Scarborough and Whitby. Would recommend to family and friends and will return for another short break soon.
