Fun Days Out in North Yorkshire

Dig promises a unique fun and educational experience and is the ideal place for a family day out. The site features four exciting excavation pits filled with Roman, Viking, Medieval and Victorian remains which children will just love digging up! While discovering the treasures children can speak to the friendly staff and learn about the items they are finding.  There are also three discovery rooms where children can try out various archaeological techniques, a science lab where experiments are plentiful and a field tent offering a range of activities. Pre booking is recommended during school holidays and at weekends.

Castle Howard is a beautiful place for a day trip set within 1,000 acres of glorious parkland and garden. The site is home to the historic castle itself but also has many other attractions including the Land Train which is a great way to explore the park and the Great Lake where boat trips can be enjoyed. During school holidays and at weekends in the summer organised activities such as crafting sessions, animal encounters and educational talks are on offer to ensure that the children are well catered for. Other attractions include the Adventure Playground, Nature Trail, Farm Shop and Café.

If you have children of varied ages and are looking for a day out to please everyone, then Creepy Crawlies is the perfect choice. The all weather attraction offers fun and games for children up to 12 years old and also provides a place for adults to relax and enjoy a coffee while the kids are playing on the slides, sports area and adventure zone. The site also has a very impressive outdoor area and petting zoo where children can enjoy crafts and meet cute and cuddly animals. Outside there is also a pedal track with Berg Go karts for big children and ride on's for little ones, a pond and a sensory zone where children can touch and feel new and interesting things. You can bring along a picnic to enjoy outside or try a freshly cooked meal at the cafe.

York Maze is fast becoming one of the regions top tourist attractions during the summertime.  This year the maze has a new design to make it even more fun and interesting.  The maze is carved out of an amazing 1.5 million growing maize plants and is thought to be the largest maze in the world! Of course the maze is the main attraction of the site, but there are plenty of other things for the whole family to enjoy including an adventure playground, 9 hole crazy golf course and a animal petting area where children can meet the animals that eat the maize and watch pig racing! Tractor and trailer rides around the maize are also available.

We had an amazing holiday and would be very tempted to come back again. It was in an ideal location and very tranquil. Our one little gripe was no tea towels, washing up liquid or any spare toilet rolls. Apart from this, it was perfect.

The caravan was immaculate and had central heating, which I've never had in a caravan before. The rooms were spacious and the oven, fridge etc a good size for a large caravan. There were also lots of DVDs and games provided. The pots & pans were a bit tiny to cater for our family of 5, e.g we had to boil our pasta in three pans and cook the rest of the meal afterwards. Plenty of cupboard space though (which could easily accommodate bigger pans!). Lovely accommodation overall though, didn't feelike a budget holiday at all.

We have stayed at this park before so knew we would have a peaceful and quiet time. The staff are really friendly and helpful. All the local shops are just a few minutes walk away.If you want a lovely holiday without the hustle and bustle this is the place to go.It is quite central to get to all the best attractions and the city of York is only ten minutes away or a bus ride from the village. We hope to return again next year

A very quiet but relaxed holiday. The site was so clean and maintained. The caravan was just what we needed and like home from home. To wake every morning and be greeted by the ducks on the river right outside was a pleasure. The village is a very short walk and has a local Co-op and excellent takeaways. I can highly recommend the Indian restaurant. If I had to criticise one thing my daughter who was 12 got bored as there wasnt really anything for her to do.
Mrs H
Fantastic location for visiting York and surrounding areas. Many attractions close by. Very peaceful park and the caravan was immaculate! The staff were very friendly and the local village shops were less than 5 minutes walk away. Highly recommended!
Mrs B
Very helpful hosts. Lovely accommodation.
Mrs T
This was an excellent campsite in a quiet location but still only 2 minute walk to the village that had shops, food establishments and 3 local pubs (some children welcome) 10 minute drive to York and easy access to main roads for travelling.
Mrs D
Great little site, exactly what we wanted and will be looking to go back again. Accommodation was of a great standard, we were in pet friendly caravans.
Miss G
It was absolutely as the brochure described it. The perfect location for a get away from it all break, but at the same time spot on as a base to visit all the surrounding villages town and coastal resorts of Whitby, Filey, Scarborough and Bridlington.
Mrs D
Overall the holiday was very good. The dog friendly accommodation was excellent - so often the dog friendly ones are a little battered and worn but this one was perfect - for once we had a happy family and a happy dog! The site was very peaceful and its location so close to York was great. The staff at the site were very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough to help.
Mrs H
A lovely site very well maintained. The caravan had everything I could need and was beautiful and clean. Shops and restaurants within an easy walk or short drive. 20 minutes drive only to York and central for the moors and coast.
Mrs L
We found the Park very well situated. Short walk to selection of stores, grocery, butcher, chemist, also a choice of take away foods, Fish and chips, Chinese and fast food outlet. Health Centre and Dentist in village. Everything you may require. Bank with ATM. It is also on the bus route into York and other places. The park itself was very quiet apart from the sound of the weir, I found it very relaxing. We were visited by ducks every day which made us laugh. We enjoyed a lovely relaxing holiday, park management very helpful and friendly.
Mrs S
Weir Park is the perfect location for a relaxed and chilled out holiday, the accommodation is fantastic and the location breath-taking! I went for a week and didn't want to come home. I would highly recommend Weir Park for a quiet relaxed, chilled out holiday in a picture perfect setting.
Miss S
I would recommend this holiday for anyone who likes a quiet, beautiful park.
