Visitor Reviews of Whitbarrow

Emma Carter
Date of stay: 19th January 2025
We loved exploring the charming village they’ve built here. The Skiddow was really close to the car park and main areas like reception, restaurant and bar, which was super convenient. The cottage was spotless, roomy and cosy. The kitchen had all the basics. Overall, a great stay-we’ll be back for sure!

Date of stay: 15th September 2024
Overall, we really enjoyed the stay. The cottage was spotless and had everything we needed. The only downside was the hot tub shutting down at 9pm, which wasn’t explained beforehand. Also, it’s quite exposed, so privacy was a bit lacking.

The cottage was lovely overall, but the bath water flow was a bit slow and the toilet flush could use some fixing. Still, charming place!

Date of stay: 25th April 2024
We had an absolutely lovely stay here and definitely plan to return. The Troutbeck cabin was super cosy and really well stocked with everything we needed for cooking, though we did have to use scissors for pizza since there wasn’t a cutter! The layout was pretty unique - all the bedrooms are downstairs and the living space is upstairs, which gave it a bit of an upside-down feel. The main living area was warm and inviting, perfect for relaxing after a day out. Inside, everything was spotless and the beds were really comfy, making it easy to unwind. The location is quite remote, which we actually enjoyed for the peace and quiet, though Penrith isn’t exactly nearby for shops - it’s a bit of a drive. On the plus side, there were some tea bags, coffee and milk sachets waiting for us, so we could have hot drinks right away. The only minor thing was that the hot tub access is through the patio doors in the main bedroom, but honestly, it didn’t really bother us. We had a cracking time and would definitely come back!

Date of stay: 21st January 2024
We booked around Christmas and honestly, the whole vibe was pretty lacklustre. The bar closed early on Christmas Eve and was shut on Christmas Day unless you had a reservation for a meal, which was a bit disappointing. The outdoor lights were really underwhelming - more of a fire hazard than festive! The staff didn’t seem very cheerful either, so we left early. We used to love this place, but not anymore.

The place was really lovely, peaceful and well laid out. Only thing missing was a tumble drier-drying wet clothes took forever, which was a bit of a pain.

Really enjoyed our stay! The place was spotless and everyone was super friendly. Loved how peaceful it was-no noisy groups or loud music, just a nice, calm vibe. Kids adored the ducks!

Date of stay: 27th January 2020
We had such a lovely stay! The lodge was spotless and super comfy, which made everything so easy. The kids couldn’t get enough of the swimming pool, golf and the park - they had a blast. The restaurant was spot on too. There are loads of nice places nearby to explore. Only thing missing was our little dog, it’s tough leaving him behind, honestly. Can’t wait to come back!
Emma Roberts, Cumbria
Date of stay: 20th January 2020
We stayed in a lovely cottage that comfortably fit eight, but the dining area only had seats for six, so two of us ended up eating on the sofa, which was a bit awkward. Also, it would be great if there was a small shop on-site - we forgot some essentials and had no nearby place to grab them. Still, overall, a nice stay!
Oliver, Liverpool

It's the first time for us there and we will be back very enjoyable Staff were fabulous thank you ?
Gary
Excellent setup and location in need of balconies painting and restaurant closed 2 days, which we understand due to short taff in the kitchen but the bar could of been open. All in we have stayed 10 times and will make it 11 then 12+
Liane
We stayed in Caldew 1, myself, my husband and two children aged 7 and 11. The contact free check in worked very well. I arranged an online shop for an hour after we arrived at reception. This was great but next time would meet the van in the guest car park as there is more space. The lodge was well equipped and very clean. The children used the swimming pool twice a day which was fantastic. Our hot tub was serviced every day and we had lots of fun using that. Places I would recommend a visit to with children are - Lowther Castle (huge adventure play area), Aira Force (the kids played in the stream for hours), and Brougham Castle. We packed lunches everyday which saved money. A big thank you to the reception staff at Whitbarrow Village who worked hard to make our stay enjoyable. My daughter particularly enjoyed feeding the ducks with the food you gave her
Nikola
Staff were very kind and attentive. The entire place is spotless
Joanne
We had a fantastic few nights Surroundings are stunning as is the accommodation and facilities. Very calming place and lots for the kids. We really enjoyed the pool which was spotlessly clean. The staff were lovely and so helpful at the main reception. Food in the restaurant was delicious. We would return tomorrow ?
