Berkshire is called the Royal County for good reason. Windsor Castle stands high over the Thames, and the racing at Ascot draws crowds every June. Berkshire is mostly towns, commuter villages and farmland, so it has only a handful of parks. Two names come up again and again when visitors look for camping in Berkshire or a caravan park near the river.

A caravan holiday on a park means static caravans, lodges and holiday homes, sometimes with touring pitches, glamping or chalets too. The bigger parks add a pool, a shop and a play area, while smaller lodge parks swap the facilities for peace and a hot tub on the decking.
You get far more room than a hotel. Collect your keys from reception and you'll find separate bedrooms, a kitchen, a shower room and your own outdoor space, and because it's self catering you can eat when you like. Better still, there's no airport, so pack the car with the bikes, the dog bed and the wellies.

Royal history is everywhere. It's the calendar that surprises visitors, though. Home Park hosts the Royal Windsor Horse Show each May, Royal Ascot fills five days of racing in mid-June, and the Reading Festival takes over Richfield Avenue across the August bank holiday weekend.
Why a holiday park here? You get quiet countryside at night, with Windsor, Reading and Ascot close enough for a day trip.

Most of these parks are self catering, but for a special night out Bray near Maidenhead is home to The Fat Duck and The Waterside Inn, two of Britain's most famous restaurants.
Dinton Pastures near Wokingham covers 350 acres of meadows and lakes, with watersports and a play area for children. The canal towpath is flat enough for little legs and bikes.

Right on the river, on the edge of Benson village, this is the place for couples who want to relax. Walk to the village's two gastropubs, then come back to a verandah with a premium hot tub. It's adults only, best suited to over 35s, and the highest rated park here at 4.9.
Tilford, near Farnham - about 48 minutes from Reading - sleeps up to 6 - hot tubs / pets welcome
Tucked into the Surrey Hills, Tilford Woods is close to the village cricket green, Bourne Woods and Hankley Common. Feed the ducks and find the insect hotel. Then sink into the outdoor hot tub on your secluded deck.
Albury, Guildford, Surrey - about 60 minutes from Reading - sleeps up to 4 - pets welcome / pool
Pick Edgeley if you want facilities. It has a heated indoor pool, a fitness suite and a tennis court in Surrey woodland, and beds come made up with linen and towels.
Faringdon - about 63 minutes from Reading - sleeps up to 6 - hot tubs
On the edge of the Cotswolds, Faringdon Grange has fully equipped kitchens, a private deck and a hot tub. Watch the wildlife from the patio, or head out on beautiful countryside walks from the door. Faringdon town is close by.
