Date of stay: 15th August 2020
Spent a fabulous week here, the lodge was very comfortable with everything we could possibly need. I was very pleased to have thick fluffy bath sheets! Lauren & Jake have continued the eco ethos of the previous owners. We were lucky to have great weather so were able to sit out every evening just enjoying nature at its best, we loved watching the squirrels & ducks.
We visited York, Aysgarth Falls, Whitby, Scarborough & Eden Camp which I would wholeheartedly recommend.
We enjoyed eating out at Thompson’s Fish Restaurant, Tykes & The Ship Inn.
Lauren was always available to check everything was ok & open to any suggestions.
This was our second visit and we will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed our time at Great Wood Lodges. The cabin was clean, comfortable and spacious with lots of little added extras such as condiments, towels and even jigsaws. The young couple who run the site are very friendly and helpful and when we asked about chip shops, they pointed us down the road in the direction of Thompsons where we bought some of the best chips and fritters we've ever had. The cabin was one of four, all set around a lake in the middle of a wood and you could not wish to be in a more tranquil and beautiful place. You could easily spend your holiday sitting on the veranda taking in the view and watching the birds (and the occasional cheeky squirrel) on the feeders. There's quite a lot of fantastic places in the area to tempt you out though. I particularly liked wandering around the Shambles and visiting the Minster in York. We also drove across the dramatic scenery of the Yorkshire Moors to get to the charming town of Whitby. We ran out of time to go to all the places we wanted to go, but that's ok because we definitely want to go back. I would recommend Great Wood Lodges as a really lovely place to have a holiday.

Date of stay: 8th September 2017
As usual, Don and Helen were most attentive, friendly and helpful. The lodge was extremely well presented and fully equipped with everything we needed. There were even new settees that were more comfortable than before which was very nice. The surroundings were beautiful and the wildlife astounding. What with the fishing lake only a few paces away what was not to like?

Great little oasis, very clean and comfortable lodges, a lot of care has gone into the small details. Wildlife on your doorstep. Only thing I would of preferred would be a little more distance between the lodge for privacy. But a great little site even so.

only thing i would change is put blinds on kitchen windows and same in bathrooms .
Sally
Lovely relaxing week, clean comfortable lodge, great for walking, really enjoyed all the wildlife and watching what the fishermen caught. Close to towns and cities. I plan to return sometime.
Julie
An absolutely lovely lodge in beautiful peaceful surroundings. The lodge was immaculate throughout with comfy beds and fully equipped kitchen. The lake and woods around was filled with wildlife and we spent ages watching the geese with their babies. Just rural enough for peace and quiet but close enough to shops and the centre of York.
