Surrounded by 21 acres of beautiful countryside, and just a short distance from the Durham Dales and Hamsterley Forest, Heather View Leisure Park is the ultimate rural retreat. There are numerous outdoor activities to take part in - from horse riding, walking and fishing to golf and swimming. County Durham is a fantastic holiday destination for the whole family.

There are any number of market towns, Roman forts and waterfalls to discover, but if you fancy staying closer to home, the park has a lovely Canadian style lodge bar and restaurant where you can enjoy home cooked food. There's entertainment and play areas for the kids, as well as some beautiful walking and cycle routes - the Derwent Walk from Consett is traffic-free.

The accommodation is a mix of caravan and lodges. Deluxe 3 Lodge is spacious enough for six people with a lovely master double bedroom and two twin rooms. The open plan living/kitchen/dining area is light and airy and there's a decking area with patio furniture.

The Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle is fascinating, housing the largest collection of European arts in the North of England. Take in the views as you walk from Middleton Bridge and follow the River Tees to Eggleston Bridge.

Our Top Tip
"Prudhoe Water World is perfect for water babies - the 25m pool, wave machine and 40m aqua slide will keep them busy for hours!"

First time in a caravan and really surprised on size, twin bedroom rather small but double made up for it. Parking outside the caravan and nice little welcome pack

Very comfortable , new, caravan with good sized lounge and double bedroom. Good cooking facilities including gas oven and hob, and modern microwave. We could have done with instruction booklets for the equipment. (We weren't sure what the wattage of the microwave was, and had to ask the next door neighbours to show us how to light the gas oven!).

We enjoyed our holiday at Stanhope , lovely site and surroundings a walk around four miles in a circular with pubs and shops along the way:went to Bemish for the day and Durham and the catherdral . Riverside setting in village with stepping stones across river ,our dog loved it - the site is lovely for children and safe food is good at the crazy bear :

Emma
Lovely holiday, very relaxing
Donna
Great location. Caravan was exceptionally clean, actually thought we were the first ones to stay in it until I found a little child’s toy under a bed. Everything was spotless. Lovely pub and night entertainment. Disappointed that the pub wasn’t open in the morning to do breakfasts though.
Rosie
The caravan was lovely, comfortable and clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The site was pleasant. There was live entertainment that was quite noisy until about 11pm but it wasn't a major problem. The shop on site was quite limited and only takes cash, but there is a co-op in the local village which you can take a pleasant walk along the river to in 20 minutes if needs be. I would return if I was visiting the area again.
Ronald

Julie
