Absolutely love this for my dog! Will return.

Date of stay: 3rd December 2024
We loved the rustic feel, it really felt like a proper log cabin getaway. Everything was spotless and working perfectly, making it super cosy and charming overall.
Emma Parker
Date of stay: 11th November 2024
Honestly, our stay was pretty disappointing overall. One of the bedrooms was unacceptably dirty - we found used ear buds on the floor and under the bed, which was gross. When we arrived, they were setting up a Halloween event and we were told to come back later because it wouldn’t be ready. When we did return, we were told our kids couldn’t go in because it needed to be booked online, which no one mentioned beforehand - pretty frustrating. After we got home, we realised we’d left a jacket on the back of a bedroom door. I rang up to ask about it, but I had to chase them several times. The woman on reception kept saying she’d call me back after speaking to the cleaner, but she never did. Eventually, I was sent a jacket that wasn’t ours and they claimed no other jacket was found. The only conclusion is that the staff must have taken it. Reception even admitted no one had stayed in that cabin after us. Honestly, wouldn’t recommend this place at all - just not a great experience!

We decided to have a quick last-minute getaway with the dog and this place turned out to be a lovely surprise! The hot tub was a great bonus we weren’t expecting at all. When we arrived, everything was spotless and ready to go, which made settling in so easy. The surrounding area is perfect for walking-Rufford Abbey was a highlight and we even spotted some deer close to the lodge. The staff were super friendly and made sure the hot tub was checked daily. Sadly, our dog picked up harvest mites, which made her quite unwell, but that’s just bad luck and not the fault of the accommodation. Just a heads up to other dog owners to keep an eye out for them at this time of year!

We had such a relaxing break here! The lodge was spotless and cosy and the hot tub was a real treat. We didn’t bother with the site facilities, just used it as a base for exploring. Can’t wait to come back next year!

We loved the cosy vibe of the lodge! The outdoor area was perfect for the dogs and kids and the log burner kept us warm all weekend.
Oliver
Date of stay: 5th September 2024
We really loved the location, just a short walk to Rufford Park, which is beautiful. However, the lodge itself needs a serious overhaul - it’s in dire need of cleaning and redecoration. Several areas had stains and marks and some fixtures like the boxing were hanging off, plus the shower plinth was ill-fitting. The free sports facilities are a nice touch, but unfortunately, the equipment is in poor shape and the tennis court is quite uneven. The pool was a bit of a letdown - it was freezing and the showers weren’t working at all. The jacuzzi was more of an ice bath, so we couldn’t use it. Staff at reception were hit and miss and we had to wait half an hour just to get someone to ask about the facilities. Honestly, we wouldn’t come back unless they did some major updates and improvements.
Emma Roberts
Date of stay: 17th August 2024
Honestly, we were pretty disappointed with our stay. The lodge looked really worn out, especially the front door which was damaged and kept jamming. The bathroom wasn’t cleaned properly, with old toiletries and mouldy grouting. The curtains were ripped and rubbish was just left on the patio. The pool was peeling and cold, plus the reception shut early most nights, even when it was still open. Not what we expected at all.

Great place to stay, plenty to explore nearby!
Emily and Mark
Date of stay: 30th July 2024
When we first arrived, we had a bit of a headache trying to find where to check in since there were no signs pointing to reception. That was a bit frustrating, to be honest. Anyway, once we got to our lodge, we were quite happy to discover a hot tub that wasn’t even listed-definitely a nice surprise! Inside, the place looked clean at first glance, which was reassuring. However, things took a turn when we went for a shower later that evening. There were dead flies in the tray, which was a bit gross and we also noticed some stains on the carpet, which didn’t quite sit right with us. One thing that bugged us was the fact that once reception closed at 7pm, we couldn’t use any of the on-site facilities, including the shop, since they’re all in the same building. That felt a bit restrictive. The swimming pool was another letdown-way too cold, especially for our 14-month-old, who didn’t enjoy it at all. We also had some noise issues. Despite the quiet hours, neighbours were up until at least 1:30am, if not later. We called the out-of-hours security team, but their response was pretty dismissive-they basically asked what they could do about it and when we asked for someone to come out, they didn’t show for half an hour. When we called again, no answer. It was only after multiple attempts that a guard finally arrived, had a quick chat and then drove off. Not long after, the noise started up again, even louder. We kept trying to get hold of security via text and calls, but they ignored us. Honestly, it felt like they didn’t care if it was an emergency or not. The boiler also lost pressure during our stay and despite reporting it, it wasn’t fixed before we checked out. We were two families with small kids, including a 14-month-old, so these issues really affected our experience. Wouldn’t recommend for a relaxed holiday, unfortunately.

Date of stay: 24th July 2024
We had a fantastic stay with four generations, from tiny 4-year-olds to a 93-year-old, plus our dog. Both lodges, Forester 4 Pet 44 and 45, were spotless and spacious, with private hot tubs and secure gates on the decking to keep the dog safe. We loved visiting the animals, swimming, playing tennis and exploring the woods around the site. The outdoor areas were great for the kids and staff were always friendly and helpful. The only extra cost was for icecreams - a lovely touch!

Date of stay: 3rd June 2024
The place was really lovely-spotless, comfy and perfect for families with dogs. The structure was solid and the facilities were well thought out. We honestly couldn’t ask for more!
Emma Carter
Date of stay: 27th April 2024
The sofas were really disappointing-super small and not comfy at all, could feel the springs through the mattress. The log burner needed a proper clean too!
Sarah Collins
Date of stay: 7th April 2024
The master bedroom mattress is pretty worn out, the springs no longer support properly. Definitely needs replacing soon!
Emma Carter
Date of stay: 21st March 2024
Overall, we had a decent stay, but the mattress was way too soft for us pensioners. It left us with sore backs, which was a bit of a letdown. Most folks might not mind, but a bit more support would’ve been nice.
Emma
Date of stay: 21st February 2024
The lodge overall was quite lovely, but I found the beds a bit too soft for me. Also, some areas weren’t thoroughly cleaned beforeh and, which was a bit disappointing.
Lucy
Date of stay: 16th February 2024
We had a lovely time! The place was spotlessly clean and well maintained, which made us feel comfortable. The kids loved feeding the animals, exploring the woods and playing at the parks. The pool was a decent size for private hire, though they sometimes wanted a bit more than the half-hour. Staff were super friendly and helpful too.
Emma Roberts
Date of stay: 21st January 2024
We stayed here a few years back and it was really lovely, but sadly, it’s gone downhill a bit since then. The place looked very tired and not well looked after. The cabin was pretty dirty - the dishwasher was gross and clearly hadn’t been cleaned, so we had to do it ourselves before use. The bedding wasn’t great either, so we were glad to bring our own pillows. There was definitely dog hair everywhere, which was a shame because we love the area with its nice walks and pubs serving good food. Hopefully they sort out the cleaning soon, they really need to hire a proper cleaning company.
Emma Carter
Date of stay: 10th January 2024
We stayed here recently and it’s definitely a budget option, kinda like centre parks-lite. The hot water was a bit unreliable in our cabin, which was annoying. The cleaning could’ve been better too - found food bits in the dishwasher from previous guests. On the plus side, the pool was great and booking it per cabin meant we had it all to ourselves, which was lovely!
Emma
Date of stay: 9th January 2024
We've been coming to this park every New Year for a decade now. The kids really enjoy the freedom to run around and discover new things. It’s a lovely spot, easy to get to and the staff are always friendly. Only thing is, it could use some updates, like pool heating and a little café for a coffee or cake while the kids play. Would be perfect!
Emma Clarke
Date of stay: 4th January 2024
Disgusting experience, won't be coming back.
Emma Carter
Date of stay: 2nd January 2024
Couldn’t believe how dusty and messy the lodge was.
Emma Turner
Date of stay: 1st January 2024
Honestly, we were really disappointed. The place was filthy - chocolate smudges on the walls, blood stains in the bathroom and dead flies everywhere. The flooring was ripped and there was a strong smell of urine in the main bedroom. It’s such a shame because it could be lovely if it was properly cleaned and maintained. Such a letdown!
Emma Roberts
Date of stay: 1st January 2024
We found the stay really comfy and enjoyable. The accommodation was nice, though it’d be great if there were options for bunk beds or two singles in a room. The kitchen was functional but quite basic and the shop on-site could do with more essentials like bread, milk and butter-more sweets and fizzy drinks too. The staff at the castle were super relaxed and flexible with booking activities, which was a bonus!
Alex
Date of stay: 1st January 2024
We loved visiting during Christmas! The forest walk was perfect for the dogs and the lodge was cosy to relax in afterwards. Definitely a great spot!
Emma Carter
Date of stay: 1st January 2024
We had a lovely break over Christmas with beautiful walks and peaceful surroundings. The staff were really friendly and helpful. It’s a shame the prices are nearly double next year though!
Wendy
Lovely chilled out few days, location is superb with little parks dotted about in the woods. Kids really enjoyed having the pool to themselves as booked 30 minute slots. Will definitely be returning ?
Michael
Great little holiday park in nice surroundings. Lots of outdoors paths trails and parks. Lodge was generally ok. There was signs of damp and lack of high level cleaning (cob webs) in lodges and customer areas which could be improved.
Emma
Spent a long weekend here and totally enjoyed it. Would recommend
Helen
This is our 4th time staying here and we love it! The lodges are quite basic but in a fantastic location.
Sharon
The cabin was lovely and clean the cleanest I ever stayed in the location was good will go back next year
Anzella
Nice place to stay for holidays.
Thomas
We really enjoyed our holiday at Sherwood castle and would recommend it to any young family. The site has great facilities including the pool and tennis courts although some of the outdoor activities has taken a beaten due to COVID. The lodges themselves are well acceptable for the price and I believe are due to be revamped over the next year. The site is centrally located with numerous towns and cities all within an hour's drive. Also Sherwood pines and the Sherwood forest visitor centre are less than 10 minutes away. The best part of Sherwood Castle is the staff. They are genuine nice people who have great knowledge of the area and help a lot. I would recommend this site.
