We had such a lovely stay at this charming cottage. The quiet setting was perfect for relaxing and the hot tub was just what we needed after long walks. The place was spotless and had everything we could think of. Highly recommended!

We needed a get-away for a dog walk and it was spot on. Lovely place to stay, with pubs and eateries nearby, plus endless fields and trails. Our dog didn’t want to leave, honestly! Highly recommend.

We loved the calm atmosphere and the Jacuzzi was just fantastic!

From the moment we arrived, Rob, Sharon and Bonnie made us feel really welcome. They've done a fantastic job converting this historic place with such care. The house itself is cosy and well-equipped for a relaxing stay. The location is perfect for exploring Essex, especially if you enjoy wandering through charming villages like Thaxted. We loved soaking up the history and beautiful buildings nearby. Definitely a place we’d return to!

Lovely location. Quiet and restful away from the nearest village with an abundance of bird life from our deck. Very clean accommodation. Well equipped. Sparkling clean hot tub, up to temperature when we arrived. A personal preference, I think the main bedroom which is a really good size would benefit from a king-size bed. We faced the lake and our deck felt very private with no-one opposite us. We visited for a weekend in March and thought it was good value.

We loved staying here! The place is super peaceful, far from the busy village and we enjoyed watching all the bird life from the deck. The accommodation was spotless and well equipped, which made everything easy. The hot tub was sparkling clean and ready to go when we arrived-such a nice touch. If we’re honest, the main bedroom could do with a king-size bed, but overall, it felt really private facing the lake. Great value for a weekend getaway in March!

Hot tub was a bonus

From the moment we arrived, we were pretty impressed - the bedroom really does have that wow factor. We were a bit thrown off by the fridge situation, though. It’s listed as a fridge freezer, but it’s actually just an under-counter fridge with a tiny freezer compartment. Not a big deal for a weekend, but we stayed for a week and had loads of frozen food in cool bags, so it was a bit inconvenient. Maybe the description should be clearer so folks don’t get caught out. The windows in the kitchen and bedroom could do with a good clean - when the sun’s shining, you notice how grubby they are. A shelf in the shower would be a handy addition, too. As others mentioned, the TV is quite small, so upgrading that would be nice. More plug sockets would also make things easier. Despite these minor gripes, we really enjoyed ourselves - the hot tub was definitely the best we’ve ever used. We’d happily come back for another weekend away if we get the chance!

Overall, I think it's a decent product. The only tiny gripe is that I prefer softer pillows, so it took me some time to settle in comfortably. Nothing major, just personal preference really.

The cottage was lovely, perfect for a peaceful escape. The only thing to note is the occasional night-time plane noise since it's close to Stansted. Hot tub was a real highlight!

The place was super tidy and the beds were really comfy with loads of pillows. Everything in the kitchen was there, making it easy to cook. We’d stay again for sure!

We had an amazing weekend here, honestly couldn’t have asked for more! The place was perfect for us and the dogs, especially with the underfloor heating which they adored. The garden was a hit too - Luna was wagging her tail like crazy all weekend, so much fun! We’ll definitely be returning soon, absolutely loved it!

Great stay at Oakwood! Great start to the New Year.Lovely lodge, surrounded by beautiful surroundings and nature, loved the little robins that came to see us every morning.Lovely experience to have the hot tub in the snowy crisp weather.Had a slight electric trip, due to the snow, however we were kept up to date on the progress of when it would be back on, this wasn't the site itself, but the area of North Yorkshire we were in.Lovely chilled weekend and would highly recommend!

We had a really lovely time staying at Oakwood! It’s a great spot to start the New Year, honestly. The lodge itself was cosy and surrounded by stunning nature - we loved the little robins that kept visiting us each morning. The hot tub was a real treat, especially in the snowy, crisp weather, didn’t want to leave! We did have a minor electric trip because of the snow, but the staff kept us updated, which was appreciated. Overall, a chilled weekend, highly recommend!

We had a fantastic weekend here, exactly what we were after. The place was perfect for us and our dogs-they adored the underfloor heating and the garden. Luna was so happy she wagged her tail non-stop, ended up with a strained tail! Honestly, we’ll be coming back for sure. Great spot for pups and their humans alike!

Absolutely loved this holiday to celebrate our 60th birthdays. Such a peaceful location surrounded wildlife, the House martins were a treat to watch. The lodge has everything you need in it to enjoy your stay. The site manager Gerry was really helpful especially in recommending places to eat out at. Easy to get to Selby & York. We will definitely return. TY

Had a great stay, place is lovely and the view as well as the family of ducks are beautiful. The lodge was clean and nicely decorated and having the hot tub was an added bonus. Would recommend this place for any romantic getaway. Thank you.

Superb location and good accommodation

We had a great week, lodge was really good and had everything we needed. We all loved it, we had the hottest day ever though and needed fans for nighttime. Superb location for us we had two children with us so we’re out most days then back later in…hot tub was great for us as a family too.

A lovely peaceful break with lovely clean accommodation and friendly helpful staff

What an Amazing lodge, it's luxurious and relaxing. We stayed for a week and it was so chilled. The bedroom definitely has the wow factor. It was the comfiest bed I've ever slept on and the shower is amazing. We were there during the heat wave and temperatures got to 40°. We turned the hot tub down low and used it to cool off. The kitchen was well aquiped and had everything we needed. We headed into York one day and used the park and ride to get there. York was lovely. The only downfall of the whole break was the garden furniture. The chairs are uncomfortable and because they were metal got excruciatingly hot during the day that you couldn't sit on them. As it was so hot you wanted to be outside but unfortunately there was nowhere to relax. I'd have rated this 10/10 if the furniture had been a bit more comfortable and practical. If we went again we would take our own garden loungers.

Beautiful lodge, overlooking a small lake, occupied by wildlife. Superb hot tub and modern lodge. Very relaxing ! Well worth a second visit.
