Great place for families; we really enjoyed the hot tub and sauna.

We really enjoyed our stay. The kids loved the activities, especially the kids’ club. We’re definitely thinking of coming back in summer! Would’ve loved to try archery though.

We had a lovely stay overall. The lodge was really nice, though having to use the sofa bed was a bit of a pain. The hot tub was spotless and well looked after, with tests done twice daily - definitely a plus! The only downside was the lack of drying space for all the wet towels from the kids and hot tub, but we found a laundry room upstairs eventually. The staff at reception were fantastic, making our four-night break even better!

Comfortable and lovely stay

The place was really well-equipped, especially the kitchen which had pretty much everything we needed, even if some utensils felt a bit basic. The bathroom and lounge were super plush with loads of cushions and blankets. The downstairs bed was a bit small for a couple but still comfy!

We had a fantastic stay! The place was absolutely spotless and well thought out, with everything we could possibly need. The hot tub was checked and PH balanced regularly, which was a lovely touch. We tried to keep it tidy and returned it pretty much how we found it, even with our two dogs. Honestly, it was a really enjoyable experience and we’d definitely recommend it. Definitely a five-star stay in our book!

We stayed for a quick getaway and honestly, it was a mixed bag. The lodge was really lovely and the facilities for dogs are fantastic, which was a big plus for us. The hot tub was private but, annoyingly, you’re still overlooked by others, so that’s a bit of a letdown. The food in the café was tasty but a bit on the pricey side - expected at a holiday camp though. Our teenagers weren’t too impressed with the assault course - they finished way faster than expected and weren’t keen to redo it. We had to drag them into some board games, which they reluctantly played. Overall, a decent short break, especially if you’re after a relaxed vibe for young families or couples.

We mainly grabbed coffee and pizza takeaway. The pizza was pricey but really tasty. Feels more like a cafe than a sit-down place, so we went to nearby pubs instead.

We stayed at this place during a rainy December and it was just perfect! The house is really well kitted out and kept us super warm, which was a relief. The bath was fantastic and the shower is decent too. It’s in a quiet spot, so no noise from the planes or fireworks, even better for dogs that hate them. Lovely conversion and great location overall. We had a fantastic weekend here! The place really ticked all the boxes for us and we’ll definitely return. Our dogs couldn’t get enough of the underfloor heating and the garden - Luna was wagging her tail so much she strained it! Honestly, happy pups, happy us. We had a lovely stay at Goddard's Mead. Rob and Sharon put so much effort into beautifully restoring this historic place and they couldn’t have been warmer hosts. Bonnie was adorable too! The location is spot on in Essex, perfect for exploring Thaxted and the surrounding villages. We really enjoyed wandering around and soaking up the history. It’s a cosy, welcoming spot that ticks all the boxes for a relaxing getaway. Definitely recommend!

We had such a lovely stay at this good place! The location is super private and beautiful, perfect for relaxing. The owners were really friendly and always there if we needed anything, but they respected our privacy completely. The hot tub was a real treat after long days out cycling. Only thing to note is that the cottage is quite close to Stansted’s flight path, so there’s quite a bit of aircraft noise. It took us a couple of hours to get used to it, but honestly, it didn’t ruin our holiday at all. We’d definitely go back!

What a lovely find! The cottage, nestled on a working farm, offers plenty of privacy, which we really appreciated. Robert and Sharon, the hosts, are genuinely charming and friendly. The place itself is super spacious, with a well-equipped kitchen and a comfy bed that made our stay even better. The garden’s perfect for dogs and has nice furniture to relax on. Plenty of scenic walks nearby and some cracking restaurants in Thaxted-The Star and The Maypole are favourites of ours. We’d definitely recommend it!

The owners were so welcoming and really went above and beyond when the storm knocked out the power. The place was spotless, warm and well-equipped. Our dog loved the enclosed garden and we enjoyed the hot tub too!
