We spent a week here in July with our two little dachshunds and honestly, the dogs had a blast making friends in the charming village of Thaxted. The cottage itself is quite delightful and the hot tub was a real treat, especially during the scorching weather when the water stayed cool and refreshing. The hosts were super friendly and made us feel really welcome; it was nice to see them taking their dogs out to the fields daily. Being near Stansted’s flight path was actually quite fun to watch the planes arrive. We’d definitely recommend it!

We had a fantastic stay at this cottage! The place was spotlessly maintained and had everything we needed. Loved the dog-friendly walks right outside the door and meeting the farm animals, especially Penelope the pig, was a real highlight. The host was super friendly and communicative. Definitely coming back - great value for money!

We just got back from a really nice four-night break at this cottage. The owners are super friendly but not in your face, which we appreciated. The big fenced garden was perfect for our dog to roam freely. The place had everything we needed, including a BBQ for one evening. The hot tub was absolutely brilliant! We’re already telling friends about it and would definitely come back. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Nice and peaceful, exactly what we needed

We had a lovely stay and visited twice already. Planning to return next year, especially since my daughter lives in Abernethy. The folks at River Eggs are genuinely lovely and make everything feel welcoming! Definitely recommend.

Really enjoyed the experience

This is a very quiet with only a few lodges. There is very little for children to do, but all lodges over look the play area, which is good. The lodge is clean and comfortable, but very basic. No sockets near mirrors. No mirror near sink for shaving. Decor is very old fashioned and small bedrooms. A solid building not like a caravan or Mobile home.

Wonderful stay at the lodges, we are a family of 4 and had a great time exploring the site the local areas, bonus having a animals on site to keep children occupied...

Amazing holiday as always! Beautiful lodge, very clean, everything you would need and lots of little nice touches from Mary. Really great communication prior to arrival which made it so much easier. Beautiful surroundings, lovely area for the kids to play and feed the goats. Just a fab place, we have been visiting for over 10 years and it just gets better every time. Thanks guys for a lovely stay.

Very impressed with everything. Cleanliness and comfort super. Site and village location excellent. Handy pub to walk to close by. Owners went above and beyond to contact us prior to holiday and on the day of arrival to let us know we could check in earlier than arranged.

It was exactly what we wanted, a quiet chilled break for our wee family. It was nice and safe for a young child and had everything we needed. The lodge was clean and well proportioned. The playpark and animals were great. Tyne staff were really lovely and helpful.

They made us so welcome at the lodge. Shower was not working properly. Soon came over to fix it. One of the best places I have ever stayed at. 110% recommend

A beautiful relaxing place to stay

Lovely setting and very nice restaurants near by, loads of places to go walking and there are plenty of things to do (COVID permitting of course)
