We had a lovely stay at this cosy cottage, tucked away on a working farm but still feeling quite private. Robert and Sharon are such warm hosts, making us feel really welcome. The place itself is surprisingly spacious, with a well-equipped kitchen and a comfy bed-definitely a plus after a day of exploring. The garden is perfect for dogs, totally secluded and furnished nicely. There are plenty of walks nearby and Thaxted’s restaurants, especially The Star and The Maypole, are worth a visit. We’d happily recommend it!

We had an amazing stay at Kingfisher Lodge! From the moment we arrived, it was clear how much effort has gone into making everything perfect - the welcome basket and pre-made fire were such thoughtful touches. The view of the river is stunning and super peaceful. The hot tub felt private enough to really unwind. Beds were cosy, lodge was spotless. Definitely coming back and recommending to friends!

We had a fantastic family getaway! The grounds are absolutely stunning and the lodges with log fires made it really cosy. The welcome basket was a lovely touch and the kitchen was well-stocked with bread, butter and eggs-so handy with little ones. A big thanks to Ian for being so friendly and welcoming. We’re already planning to come back in the summer, can’t wait! Such a lovely place.

We had a really lovely stay at this cosy spot tucked away in such a peaceful, private setting. The owners are genuinely warm and approachable, always ready to help without intruding. The hot tub was a real treat after cycling around all day, honestly! A slight thing to note is that the cottage is directly under the flight path, so you do get quite a bit of aircraft noise. It didn’t bother us much once we got used to it, but if you’re sensitive to noise, it’s something to keep in mind. Overall, a great place to unwind!

We booked a week at the Apple Lodge over Christmas and honestly, there’s quite a bit to love about the place, but a few things did mar the experience a bit. First off, the lodge itself is really charming. It’s cosy, immaculately clean and has a lovely design that makes you feel right at home the moment you step in. The Christmas welcome hamper was a lovely surprise - with Prosecco, Quality Street and Mince Pies, it really set the festive tone. Plus, the lodge was decorated with a Christmas tree, which was a nice touch. They also left a general welcome hamper with tea, coffee, bread, butter, biscuits and milk in the fridge, so we didn’t have to rush out first thing. The outside wood storage was well-stocked with kindling, which was perfect for keeping the log burner going, creating that warm, cosy atmosphere we love. The bed was super comfy and the blackout blinds in the bedroom meant we slept in late without any hassle. We also appreciated the helpful welcome pack explaining local bits and bobs - good communication overall. Now, onto some of the downsides. The Wi-Fi was pretty much unusable most of the time, which was a real pain. We had to leave early on one day because we couldn’t get any work done remotely. We did mention this to Karen, who came by to check it out. Her solution was showing us she could stream iPlayer on her phone and she mentioned no other guests had issues. But the next day, we spoke to a guest in the cabin next door who said the same thing - the internet is just rubbish. So, clearly, it’s not just us. Most days, unless we sat right by the front door, we couldn’t connect or check emails. On Christmas Day, we managed a flaky FaceTime call by sitting outside near the front door, but even that wasn’t reliable. It’s a shame because in this day and age, decent internet is pretty much a must-have. Another thing that felt a bit lacking was the hot tub situation. No dressing gowns were provided for it, which might seem trivial, but for the price we paid, we’d expect some. The hot tub itself is exposed and overlooks the car park, Gadgirth office and next door’s cabin and their hot tub. Privacy would have been appreciated here, especially when you’re trying to relax, not feeling like you’re on display the whole time. Also, there was no toilet brush, which is a bit gross - it’s such a small thing but makes a difference. We also found there were no hooks for coats or towels, which was annoying. The wardrobe only had four hangers for two of us for a whole week - definitely not enough. The fridge had some missing or broken shelving, which made storing our food tricky after a few days. Parking was another minor gripe; while there’s space for about 8 cars, it’s not well marked and people tend to park far apart, making it a bit of a nightmare to get a space. Some painted lines or designated spots would help a lot. In terms of the lodge’s interior, it was pretty well stocked, but a few more hooks, a toilet brush and extra hangers would have made our stay even better. The overall vibe was lovely, but these small things add up. We stayed in the Apple Lodge with another couple and for the most part, we had a relaxing time. The lodge’s cosy design, the Christmas touches and the welcoming hampers really made it feel special. However, the internet issue was a biggie for us, especially since we were working remotely for part of the stay. We get that it’s a rural location and the welcome pack does mention that Wi-Fi and signals might not be great, encouraging a bit of a “tech detox.” But honestly, that’s not what we signed up for during Christmas, when we wanted to stay connected with family and friends. It was frustrating and we think they should be more upfront about the Wi-Fi limitations before booking. To be fair, once we spent New Year in the Arctic Circle (where the Wi-Fi was perfect, by the way), it was clear that rural location isn’t a good enough excuse anymore. If the internet had been better, this stay would have been nearly perfect. Still, despite the hiccups, the positives outweigh the negatives and we’d maybe consider returning if they improved the connectivity. All in all, it’s a lovely spot with a cosy feel, just a few practical things could be sorted to make it even better!

We had a fantastic stay! The house was super well equipped and kept us really warm, which was just what we needed on a rainy December day. The bath was perfect and the shower was big and powerful. Being near a flight path didn’t bother us at all and it’s a dream if you’ve got dogs that dislike fireworks - so peaceful out here. Beautifully converted property, really. Thanks a lot!

Date of stay: 23rd November 2024
Overall, the place was pretty clean, though the kitchen could’ve done with a wipe or two - the worktops had crumbs and food smudges. Nothing major, but worth a quick check next time. We also ran out of bin bags quickly, accidentally using the ones for the bedding and the recycling bin was full, so we had to leave our recycling on the floor beside it. Still, not too bad!

We recently spent a week at Herons Rest Lodge for our honeymoon and honestly, it was fantastic. The lodge itself was just what we needed-cosy and peaceful, perfect for unwinding. Yes, it could use a bit of TLC here and there, but honestly, it didn’t spoil anything for us. Mornings waking up with the view and evenings unwinding in the hot tub were pure bliss. Everything we needed was there, from towels to a welcome hamper with milk and bread, plus a well-equipped kitchen. We’re already planning to come back someday!

We had such a lovely stay at this cosy cottage! Honestly, we didn’t need to bring anything because everything was provided - we even overloaded the car just to get all our stuff in. The welcome pack was a nice touch, with clear info about the place and local menus. The little extras for our dogs and us made it feel extra special. Sharon and Rob were quick to respond if we had questions, which was great. The enclosed garden was perfect for the dogs and the hot tub was just what we needed for a relaxing break. Definitely recommend!

Had an excellent, quiet, peaceful weekend break at Gadgirth estate lodges. Memorable occasion was going down to the decking area overlooking the River Ayr with our morning coffee cups and enjoying the view over the river.
Mary
Excellent facilities and would definitely return. My only criticism is the size of the shower in the Holly Lodge. There is a separate bath, however if showers are preferred the shower is very tight. Apart from this everything was excellent and all the little extras were very much appreciated including a lovely welcome basket. The wood burner a fab added bonus too We would return Summer or Winter. The owner was very friendly and welcoming too. Also interesting nearby activities, we enjoyed Culzean Castle,(lots on the grounds too including a fab woodland playpark) Robert Burns Museum (fab playpark included here too) and his Cottage. We also visited Rozelle Park and galleries. Fantastic short break?
Dalene
Beautiful lodge in a beautiful setting. Barbecue hut and hot tubs are brilliant. You need to be prepared to drive to go anywhere even out walking to explore the countryside and the WiFi is poor. Neither of these points are bad but just useful to know in advance I think. Highly recommended for a few nights of R&R.
Kirsty
We had a fantastic holiday in Kingfisher View. Son took his fishing rod and although he didn't catch anything he enjoyed being right on the river. Staff were lovely. Surroundings so peaceful and wildlife spotting was fab too. We will def be back.
May
Very quiet area with not in much to do, so dont use unless your prepaired to get on your bike, walk, or car to look for something opther than poor peace and quiet. Hot tubs good and cleaned every day by staff. Villa are excellent, well maintained and furnished. We had a couple of issues which were sorted out quickly. My family live in this area so suited us.
Tracey
Beautiful lodge just a wee bit too remote if not wanting to drive
Kirsty
Outstanding! Perfect place if you just want to switch off and relax. Stayed with husband and 2 young children. Ayr town 15 minutes in car.
Amy
This place was beautiful, had a great stay. Staff were helpful and very clean. Beautiful touch with the welcome back. Would recommend this place to anyone. Great location to travel around Scotland
Janis
Loved it here . What an amazing hideaway . I went with my four sisters for my seventieth birthday as I was born in the village nearby . The wonderful roomy lodge was right by the river with otters swimming by , squirrels chasing in the trees , owls hooting Then the hot tub . What a treat . We will all be going back I hope
Joanne
The location, cabin and welcome totally blew us away! We absolutely loved it and we are already planning our next trip back!
Joanne
Beautiful riverside location and the site was immaculate and really well maintained by the owners who clearly have a lot of pride about the site. The interior of the lodge was stunning and had everything we needed. It was near to all the local places to visit as well, most places within 30 mins drive. We would certainly recommend it!
Lee
Stunning lodge, perfect getaway for some chill time. 10 out of 10 for me. I’d highly recommend.
