Step into the clifftop Laugharne home where Dylan Thomas lived and wrote during his last four years.
The Boathouse in Laugharne is where Dylan Thomas lived with his family between 1949 and 1953. Set in a cliff overlooking the Tâf estuary, it is now a museum run by Carmarthenshire County Council. The interior has been returned to its 1950s appearance, with a recording of Thomas's voice playing in the background, and it holds memorabilia and some original furniture, including his father's desk.
Tip: Visit the writing shed close to the main house, where Thomas did most of his writing, and look across the estuary that inspired "Over Sir John's Hill".

Carew Castle stands on a limestone bluff overlooking the Carew inlet, part of the Milford Haven Waterway. It began as a Norman stone keep around 1100 and was rebuilt and extended over the centuries, so you can see several architectural styles in one place.
Tip: Look for the Tudor range on the north side, and find the tidal mill, the only restored one in Wales.

Pembroke Castle sits on a rocky promontory beside the Milford Haven Waterway, in the centre of Pembroke. It was the original family seat of the Earldom of Pembroke and is Grade I listed. William Marshal rebuilt it in stone after 1189, creating most of the structure that remains today.

Carmarthen Castle is a ruined medieval fortress in the county town of Carmarthen, on a high terrace overlooking the tidal River Towy. It began as an early 1100s timber motte and bailey, was rebuilt in stone and was captured, destroyed and rebuilt many times. Owain Glyndŵr took it in 1405, and Henry VII's father, Edmund Tudor, died here as a prisoner in 1456.

The National Botanic Garden of Wales is in Llanarthney, in the River Tywi valley. It is both a visitor attraction and a centre for botanical research and conservation. The centrepiece is the Great Glasshouse, the world's largest single-span glasshouse at 110 m long and 60 m wide. It stands virtually on the site of Cockerell's mansion, the new Middleton Hall.
Tip: Look out across the restored eastern view towards Paxton's Tower, which was designed to be seen from the mansion's east side.

Kidwelly Castle (Castell Cydweli) is a ruined castle overlooking the River Gwendraeth and the town of Kidwelly in Carmarthenshire. It began as a Norman earth and timber ringwork in the early 12th century, and the semicircular outer ditch still survives.
Tip: Look for the inner ward's four towers, which were raised in height in the 1390s to overlook the outer ward.

Lovely and spacious and room
Had not hot water and boiler wasn't working when we arrived. Site tried and poor, bins not emptied often enough, parking terrible, pool wasn't brilliant. Local shop and beach not far away. Wouldn't go again.
We loved staying here! The rural setting is so peaceful and the courtyard with its slate really set the scene. The hot-tub made it feel super luxurious, perfect for unwinding after walks.
We recently stayed at Goddard's Mead and felt so welcomed by Rob, Sharon and Bonnie. Theyve really put a lot of effort into beautifully restoring this historic building and it shows. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxing break. The location is ideal, nestled in a lovely part of Essex. We highly recommend exploring Thaxted and surrounding villages - so much history and charm to discover. Definitely a place to visit!

We had such a lovely stay! The owners are genuinely friendly and really go out of their way to help. The cottage itself is adorable, with charming timber framing and a super comfy bed. The shower is powerful and the heating kept everything cosy. Parking right next to the cottage made things so much easier. We enjoyed walking across the fields to Thaxted - a beautiful village with those classic half-timbered houses and a windmill. Definitely recommend!

The place itself is huge, with a well-equipped kitchen and bathroom. The bed was super comfy and the gardens perfect for dogs-completely private and with nice furniture. There are plenty of walks nearby and Thaxted has some great restaurants like The Star and The Maypole. Wed definitely recommend it!

The place has everything you need for a chilled-out visit. The location is perfect for exploring Essex, especially Thaxted and the nearby villages. Definitely worth taking some time to wander and soak up the history and charming sights around. Highly recommend!

Honestly, we had a fantastic stay! The lodge was spot on - roomy, cosy and fully equipped with everything we needed. The wet room was a real highlight and those 3ft single beds made all the difference. Having a dishwasher and washer/dryer was such a bonus. Wed definitely come back!

We stayed here for a week in July with our two little dachshunds and honestly, the dogs loved every minute, making friends in the charming village of Thaxted. The cottage is really lovely, especially the hot tub - perfect for those blazing hot days, as it was cooled down and super refreshing. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming; it was nice to see them taking their dogs out to the fields daily. Being near Stansteds flight path was pretty interesting too, watching the planes land. Wed definitely recommend a stay here - its a lovely spot!

This is a great base camp for visiting neighbouring towns, Clean and tidy and big, so you weren't on top of one another. There was no outside decking or seating at our caravan, so if you want it, don'tget one on a corner. Apparently this was the reason, understand about the decking, but there was plenty of room for seating. The beach was over the road (not a busy road) and went on for miles. Good coastal walk with amazing views. Food in the cafe was lovely as was the chippy. All staff were friendly and engaging.
Fantastic location..caravan was lovely and clean..staff were brilliant very helpful with my picky diet ? would definitely come again.

Had a fab time at Pendine Sands. Lovely camp, the caravan 3 bedrooms was excellent with 2 bathrooms, great veranda for sitting out, only dissapointment was the size of the swimming pool. The beach is close by. Overall would highly reccommend.
Lovely quiet park, great facilities for kids and the beautiful is beautiful, Carmarthen town is only 20 minutes in the car where you can find a Tesco or lidl. Would definitely recommend
