We stayed in the Birch 8 berth lodge and honestly, it was so spacious with stunning views through those big windows. The kitchen was fully stocked, which was great, though some cushions might really make it feel cosier inside. The decking could do with a bit of a refresh, but that doesn’t spoil the stay. The hot tub was massive and kept the temperature perfectly, which was a huge plus. We’d definitely return to Penvelle for the scenery and location-really lovely!

We had a fantastic time with friends! The lodge was comfy and had everything we needed, though a bit worn in places. The hot tub was definitely a highlight-super clean and relaxing.

Honestly, the couch was quite worn out and covered with a blanket, which really let the place down. Needs replacing!

Honestly, we’re pretty disappointed. The shower cubicle’s been broken forever and the microwave is so rusty. Mould on the walls upstairs isn’t great either. Definitely needs sorting out!

Honestly, we were pretty disappointed with what we got. The chairs kept wobbling and the washing machine was useless. The cooker barely functioned and the TV wasn’t even a smart one-no Freeview and the aerial was broken. When we asked, they just said most people bring fire sticks. Not great at all.

We’ve been coming here for three years now and it’s just lovely. The staff really go out of their way to help. Can’t wait to return!

Honestly, we were pretty disappointed. The log burner in the cabin was broken and the swimming pool was out of service, which was a let-down. To top it off, the electricity went out while we were out walking. Our food defrosted and we had to buy more. Plus, no towels or high chair we paid for. Not great at all.

At first, we were a bit unsure after reading some reviews, but honestly, our stay was fantastic. The lodge was spotless, with super comfy beds and pillows-everything we could ask for. The location was stunning and the hot tub was waiting for us when we arrived. We had such a relaxing weekend and can’t wait to come back!

Honestly, we’ve been visiting these lodges for years, so it was a real shock this time. Leoni was great and sorted out a full refund after chatting with my sister about all the issues. It was supposed to be a birthday surprise, but that definitely didn’t go to plan. The place seems really neglected now - lodges are falling apart and some spots are definitely health and safety risks! We saw photos of lodge 6, which was in a terrible state and even after moving to lodge 8, things weren’t much better. The cooker was dead and several bulbs had blown. Such a shame after all these years.

We loved how spotless and peaceful the place was. Waking up and sitting outside in the morning was just perfect!

We had a lovely time in a stunning spot and definitely plan to come back. That said, the site could do with some TLC-our log burner was broken, the decking’s looking a bit rough and the gutters need a good clean, honestly. Still, we enjoyed it!

The heater did the job fine, even without the log burner working. We didn't really miss it.

The lodge was stunning, with high ceilings that made the space feel airy. Everything you could need was there. Truly a home away from home!

Date of stay: 29th July 2024
Honestly, the cabin was quite disappointing. The mattresses felt like they had springs poking through and the sofas were ripped to shreds. To hide it, they just threw on some covers, which didn’t really help. Not what we expected at all.

The place feels a bit tired and the boiler is pretty noisy. Plus, it's quite close to the neighbours' home.

Honestly, we were pretty disappointed. No hot water, no heating and the wood burner wasn’t working either. Plus, no BBQ. My wife’s come down with the flu now!

We had a lovely stay from Monday to Friday. The site is so peaceful and relaxing. Feeding the ducks and squirrels daily was a real treat and we loved spotting the heron! Quite charming.

We booked the lodge for my partner’s birthday and honestly, it turned out to be one of the best weekends we've had in ages. Everything was spotless and well-maintained, which we really appreciated. The hot tub was nicely screened off, giving us plenty of privacy and the distance between lodges meant we could relax without feeling crowded. We even had a BBQ in the rain-why not, right? The place was so peaceful and quiet, exactly what we needed. Wildlife was everywhere - squirrels in the mornings and a Robin even sneaked into the lodge! We’re already planning our next trip.
Emma Carter
Date of stay: 28th February 2024
We enjoyed our stay overall, but the cottage did feel a bit worn out in spots. The mould around the windows and bathrooms was a bit off-putting and it could really do with a fresh coat of paint. Still, lovely vibe!
Emma Thompson
Date of stay: 23rd February 2024
We stayed at Lodge 9, which was lovely and dog friendly. The hot tub was definitely a highlight and the pool was fun for the kids, even if it didn’t feel super clean. The location itself was really beautiful, perfect for a peaceful getaway. That said, the kitchen supplies were quite sparse - only enough for one piece of equipment each, like plates and cutlery. It could’ve used some extra pans and utensils. The decor was a bit tired and could do with a fresh coat of paint, but overall, we enjoyed our stay and the place was clean.

We’ve visited Penvale Lakes several times over the last decade and always enjoy the peaceful vibe. The lodges are really spacious and well-equipped, though a bit of a refresh for the sofas and some kitchen bits like cutlery and glasses would be great. Still, we’ll definitely be back!

Not worth the money, sadly quite disappointing.

Date of stay: 14th February 2024
We picked this lodge mainly for the log burner, so it was disappointing when we found out it was broken just days before our stay. We weren’t offered any alternative options or asked if we wanted to switch. We always book a year in advance, so it was a bit of a letdown.
Emma Parker

Sadly, our visit was quite disappointing. Nothing seemed to function properly and the pool was closed, which was really frustrating.

Lovely peaceful getaway. So good we rebooked.
Leah
One of the best holidays we have had! Quite position - just the babbling brook! Lovely fishing, swimming and jacuzzi. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Julie
Beautiful and relaxing. Just what was needed.
Louise
Great lodge with a hot tub in beautiful surroundings. We had amazing weather and the kids really enjoyed using the outdoor pool (which is covered when the weather isn’t so good). It took about an hour to walk to Llangollen which is a lovely little town. Lots of lovely walks along the canal, the river or through the countryside. It’s a shame that there isn’t a bar or restaurant on-site. There are 2 pubs nearby (not open every day) and a bar/restaurant at the nearby campsite though.
Carolyn
Stunning setting, peaceful & relaxing. We went as a group of 8 to celebrate a 50th birthday, the lodge was everything we wanted, spacious living & kitchen area, which was well equipped, and we made the most of the bbq & hot tub! Bit of a walk into Llangollen and no pavement on busy stretch of road
Suzette
Amazing location, beautiful surroundings, lovely staff.
