Visitor Reviews of Wigmore Lakes Lodges

We had a pretty decent stay overall. Katie’s call the day before was really helpful, giving us all the info we needed and making check-in smooth. The lodge looked just like the pictures, but we did notice a strange wet dog smell in the lounge - weird since it’s supposed to be pet free. We wiped everything down with antibac and used some air freshener, which helped. There was no vacuum, just a brush and dustpan, so cleaning was a bit limited. The TV was tiny and the en-suite shower wasn’t great - it kept switching between freezing cold and boiling hot, which was annoying. The weather was pretty rubbish, so we only managed to use the hot tub once and it took ages to warm up from 27C. Such a shame we didn’t get to explore Wattleborough or Shrewsbury more, but the setting was lovely and peaceful!

The place was spotless when we arrived, which was great. The single beds could do with new quilts and mattresses, though. Not a big deal, just an observation!

We spent a week at Wigmore Lake last Monday to Friday and honestly, it was quite a mixed bag. When we first arrived, we got a call around 10:30 in the morning, which was really helpful. The lady on the phone was lovely-she explained how to access our key and pay the deposit without any fuss and she asked if we had any questions, which we appreciated. Arriving early turned out to be a good thing because our caravan was ready, so we could get in straight away after a long drive. That was a relief! The caravan itself was quite spacious, especially the open-plan living room, kitchen and dining area. The hallway was a decent size too and the bathrooms were surprisingly good for a holiday park. We liked the decking around the caravan, offering a lovely view of someone fishing in the lake-really peaceful. There’s a fish shop just next door and I can honestly say their fish and chips were fresh and tasty. Plus, we found out you can get Tesco delivery right to your caravan, which was handy since both of us ordered a few bits. Now, onto the not-so-great bits. Parking wasn’t very clear, which caused a bit of confusion. Bob, the guy on site, came over to ask us to move our car into our assigned space, which was a bit of a faff. We live in the countryside, so flies are normal for us, but this place had a serious problem-flies everywhere and no fly killer available! That was pretty gross. The flooring in the living, kitchen and dining areas was another letdown. It was tacky and sticky underfoot, so we had to wear slippers the whole time, which wasn’t ideal. The floor looks quite worn and aged, not what you’d expect from a “luxury lodge.” Speaking of small details, if you need to keep medication in the fridge, check the settings because ours was turned right down and my insulin wasn’t very cold. The bedrooms were tiny and we only found a double bed in our room-should’ve double-checked the listing, my bad. The TVs were small; one in the master bedroom and a slightly bigger one in the living room. The brown leather sofas weren’t comfortable at all, which was disappointing. The dining table definitely needs some attention-looks like it could do with a good sanding and varnish, as the finish was peeling and looked pretty old. The garden furniture was quite a letdown too. The photos showed lovely rattan furniture, but in reality, it was metal with fabric seats that looked like they’d seen better days. The hot tub was another disappointment. It was dirty at the bottom and half the jets weren’t working-compared to our home spa, this had less power, which was a shame. The decking had been patched up where holes had appeared, but the repair wasn’t great. Dogs need to be on leads at all times, which is fair, but if your dog loves a good run, there’s a secure dog field nearby in Rowton Grange-only three minutes away and costs £6.50 for half an hour. The cows even came over to say hello, which was quite funny! On departure day, we were told to strip the beds and put the bedding and towels into the red bags provided. The hot tub was emptied by 7 am, which felt a bit early and they left the gate open even though we had a dog and there was another dog on-site. Not the end of the world, but a bit careless. Overall, the accommodation had most of what was advertised, but honestly, I wouldn’t call it luxury. The caravan could definitely do with a refresh-just some little touch-ups would make a big difference. The site itself is quite small, with plenty of space to add more facilities or caravans. We made the best of it and had a decent stay, but we won’t be returning. It’s not quite what we expected, but at least we got some peace and quiet and the view was lovely. Still, plenty of room for improvement, I think!

Wigmore lake . Little red heart lake viewWe done Monday -FridayThe good points 1stGot a Call about 10.30 telling us how to get out key and pay the hold deposit the lady was lovely and Asked if we had any questions etc .. arrived early and our caravan was ready so we got in early (happy days it was a long drive ) lovey big open space living room / kitchen / dinning room .Good size hallway bathrooms was great sizes . Decking around the caravan and nice view off a guy catching some fish . There is a fish shop just next door and there fish and chips was yummy and fresh … u can get a Tescos delivery to your caravan is and next door to us both did ????Now to the not so good points ..where to park is not very clear so bob ( the man on site has come and ask us move our car into our space ..FLYS we live in the countryside and we are used to flys but this was a whole new level off them … and no fly killer available !The flooring in the livening/ kitchen and dining room when walking on it it was very tacky to walk on so we had to be in footwear / slippers the whole time ( the floor could do with be replaced it’s showing it age / wear not a good look for a “luxury lodge. “Silly one but if u need to keep meds in the fridge please do check the fridge settings as ours was turned right down and my insulin was not very cold .Bedrooms very small and only a double bed ( my fault I should off double checked the listing ) There is only a very small t.v in the master bedroom and a small ish t.v in the livening room ..brown leather sofas not comfortable at all .Dinning table really dose need a good sand / varnish as it’s looks very old / peeling the varnish on the top off it .Garden furniture well it’s not what it was showed in the photo ( nice Ratten furniture ) it was metal fabric seating that has defo seen better days . HOT TUB well it was dirty at the bitten and. Half off the Jets was not working ( our lazy spa at home has more power than this hot tub had !Decking well it’s had been filled in ( where holes has appeared ) not a Good job done tho plz do note dogs have to be on leads at all time and if your dog like a good old run please do check out rowton grange secure dog field it’s only 3 min drive from site and only £6.50 for half a hour … even the cows came to say hello lol ..be warned they ask u to strip the beds and put the bedding into a red bag and the other red bag is for the towels on the day u leave… on the day we was leaving they emptied that hot tub by 7 am ! And left the gate open even tho we had a dog and there was an other dog on Site aswell !Don’t get me wrong, the accommodation had most things that it was said to have, but other than the size of the caravan, I wouldn’t call it luxury..The caravan we stayed in, it could do with a refresh, re finish, just little bits that let it down. The site is small and plenty of spaces to add more,All in all, we made it a pleasurable stay, but for us, we won’t be returning

The lodge felt a bit tired and the decking was left uncleaned on arrival. Not as spotless as other Hoseasons stays, but it was very relaxing - exactly what we needed after a busy week!

We really enjoyed this 3-bed lodge, it had everything we needed for a comfy stay. It’s definitely our favourite so far, even if the hot tub wasn’t quite as private since it faced the lake. Still loved it!
