We had a fantastic short stay! The hosts were so friendly and made us feel really welcome with a lovely pack. The lodge was modern and comfy and relaxing in the hot tub while watching the canal boats was just perfect. Plenty of nearby spots to explore too. Definitely coming back!

We’ve stayed at quite a few lodges over the years, but this one really stands out. The attention to detail in the furnishings and fixtures was impressive and the location was perfect - right by the canal and with fields full of animals nearby. The hosts greeted us with fresh meat for the BBQ, which was a lovely touch. We’ve already booked for next year!

We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better stay. The lodge itself is stunning, with incredible views that make every moment feel special. The owners really go the extra mile - they helped us organise flowers and balloons for our wedding anniversary, which Claire kindly collected and left in the lodge. They even checked in on us the next day after the storm, making sure everything was alright. Plus, they brought us some steak and sausages to go with the bubbly and biscuits already waiting for us, which was such a lovely touch. They also recommended local takeaways and invited us to visit the Christmas tree farm to see the reindeer and enjoy a free mince pie, which was a real highlight. The lodge is super well equipped - games for the kids, books, dog blankets, fast Wi-Fi, bathrobes, outdoor towels for the hot tub, BBQ and patio furniture. Honestly, it’s the best lodge we’ve ever stayed in, mainly thanks to the personal touch from the owners - it made all the difference!

We stayed at this stunning modern lodge and honestly, it was superb! Everything was spotless and well-maintained. The WiFi was strong and having Netflix onsite was a real bonus - no need to log into our accounts. Definitely one of the nicest lodges we've experienced, especially among the higher-end retreats we often choose. Would recommend!

Honestly, this lodge was a cracking find. We stayed for four nights in March during that unexpected mini heatwave and it really felt like a home away from home. The location is spot on, close enough to explore Ellesmere, Shrewsbury and Frankton Locks without any hassle. The outdoor space was perfect for lounging in the sun, with plenty of seating and a hot tub that’s actually huge - we loved soaking in it. The owner was lovely, dropping by with some sausages, which was a nice touch. Inside, the lodge was well-equipped - hairdryer, iron, washer/dryer, everything you’d need. There were also eggs, milk and biscuits waiting for us, which was a nice surprise. We’re already planning to come back for a full week next time - can’t wait!

The lodge was fantastic, we really enjoyed all of it. The only tiny thing we’d suggest is a bit more lighting on the decking - it’d make evening drinks even better. Still, loved it!

The build quality is solid, no expenses spared there. Some extra outdoor lighting would help and a TV in the bedroom would be nice too.

We really enjoyed our week in the lodge. It’s spacious, well kitted out and the beds are comfy. The only thing was the parasol didn’t quite give enough shade, but it was blazing hot when we stayed! Definitely worth it.

Just got back from a lovely short break at Winston Farm Lodges and honestly, we had a fantastic time! After doing quite a bit of research, we decided to go for the Kingfisher lodge and it truly lived up to expectations. The place is spotlessly clean and kept to a really high standard - you can tell the owners take pride in their maintenance. The little touches, like milk and eggs in the fridge when we arrived, made us feel really welcomed. Plus, there was salt and pepper on the table, which you don’t often find in rental places. We had asked beforehand if the twin room could be made into a super king and they had no issue with it - the two singles actually made a huge comfy bed for us. The layout of the lodge was perfect for us as two couples without kids. Having the bedrooms at opposite ends with the living and kitchen area in the middle gave us plenty of space and privacy. Both bathrooms are large and luxurious too, which is a big plus. Steve and Claire, our hosts, were lovely - Steve popped by daily to check on the hot tub and even arrived one day with a bunch of sausages, which was such a sweet gesture. We’ve never had that kind of hospitality before. We also met Steve’s dad, Tony, who’s a real character and an absolute pleasure to chat with. The best part? The lodge’s close proximity to the canal. We couldn’t get enough watching the narrow boats go by - it’s so peaceful and pretty. We’re already planning to come back for a two-week stay in the Heron lodge during the summer, especially to enjoy the outdoor space more. A huge thanks to Steve, Claire and the whole team - we’re really looking forward to returning soon!

We had an amazing time during our stay! The lodge, Kingfisher, was perfect for our family of four-really spacious and well-equipped. The location is stunning, with plenty of great days out nearby. Coming back to the hot tub after a busy day was such a treat, especially with young kids in tow. The hosts were friendly and made everything easy. Honestly, we loved it so much that we’ve already booked for next Easter. Can’t wait to go back! It’s a lovely place for a relaxing break.
Luke
Best weekend we have had away kids loved it and hosts was amazing would recommend it to everyone
Lisa
Lovely, peaceful location right beside the canal. The site is very well maintained and the owners are very friendly and welcoming, even bringing over sausages and steak from the farm. Lots of picturesque places to visit within easy driving distance, and lovely walks along the canal. We had a great week and will definitely return.
Hazel
Absolutely lovely! The lodge was spacious, clean and well maintained. The surroundings were peaceful with just the gentle passing of narrowboats along the canal. The hot tub and decking perfect for a summer evening. We arrived to find fresh eggs and milk. Later the owner popped round (along with the children, the dog and a lamb in tow) to make sure we’d settled in ok and delivered some fresh steaks and sausages. The personal touches of this family run business would be lost on a larger commercial operation. If you want a relaxing break away this comes highly recommended.
Array
We had a fantastic break. The lodge was exceptional and the owners were so helpful. Would most definitely recommend as the best lodge we’ve stayed in.
Karen
As always Steve you do a great job going that extra mile to make everyone’s holiday special see you again next year Thanks John & Karen
Kevin
Fabulous location of this very comfortable lodge where you sit on the huge deck area and watch the narrow boats go past. The accommodation is really comfortable and the owners are lovely people who responded really quickly when we had a small problem with the lodge. They even bring some fresh steak and sausages which were fabulous. If you want a chilled break in lovely surroundings give this a go.
Karen
Beautiful surroundings right by the canal , if you want a quiet and peaceful weekend then this place is just that , was very clean and beautiful lodge ,the people who own it was lovely they even gave us some steak and sausages to cook on the barbecue, would definitely go back ?
David
Absolutely fabulous break…..location and lodge were excellent.
Mary
Our 2nd visit to Lapwing. Beautiful spot right by the Shropshire Union Canal. Lodge was spotlessly clean, lovely fixtures/fittings/bedding/towels including towels and gowns for hot tub. Washing machine, dishwasher, oven, gas job and fridge freezer. Very rarely at lodges do you get outside sofas as well as table and chairs and such a big patio that you have at Winston Farm. Welcome pack was a nice gesture. The Mere at Ellesmere, Chick Castle, Chester Zoo and Llangollen all worth visiting. Only suggestions we could make was for more hangers or a set of draws inside wardrobes.
Sue
Lovely holiday in comfortable lodge in peaceful, tranquil setting with beautiful views. A perfect spot to unwind.
Dale
Such a lovely place to get away and the owners are great too
