Carmarthen Bay - Reviews

We recently spent a few days at Carmarthen Bay Park Dean Resort and honestly, it was a bit of a mixed bag. First off, getting there isn’t the easiest - the road leading in is quite narrow and a bit tricky to spot the turn, so you really need to keep your eyes peeled. Once you’re on the site, it’s really remote, which is a plus if you’re after peace and quiet. But beware, because if you’ve got little ones and they’re not in school, you might find the place a bit noisy - especially if they’re running up and down until late. We were surrounded by families with kids and the noise level was quite high until quite late, which was a bit frustrating. The site itself is quite sprawling, with caravans arranged in rows and fairly close together. It would’ve been nicer if they’d grouped older guests separately from families with young children, just to keep the peace for everyone. Our caravan was pretty basic but comfortable enough for a short stay. We did have to drive because the weather was so wet - walking to the amenities is quite a trek, especially in the rain. Speaking of amenities, the swimming pool, amusements, bar and restaurant are all there, but the food options are pretty limited. The only on-site dining is the Boathouse restaurant, which has a decent menu but tends to be quite pricey. We had dinner upon arrival since there wasn’t anywhere else nearby and the quality was okay - nothing special but okay for what it was. A kids’ meal was around £7, which adds up fast if you’re feeding a few children. The drinks weren’t cheap either - a pint of lager was over £6, which felt a bit steep. Kidwelly village isn’t within walking distance, so unless you drive, you’re stuck with the on-site options or paying for taxis, which we didn’t check if they’re available. The site’s entertainment facilities are actually pretty good. The clubhouse is lovely - one of the nicest we’ve seen at a campsite. They’ve got a programme of activities, including early entertainment for kids, which the staff seem really enthusiastic about. The children had a great time and the staff are very attentive. Bingo is played in the evening from 7pm, with a small fee for a book - £12 for six pages, with the last game having a prize of around £400 if you’re lucky. It didn’t take long and it’s a fun little activity. There’s also a flyer game that costs £6, if enough people want to play. We didn’t stay for the evening entertainment after bingo, but there’s quite a lot on offer. The site shop is handy if you forget something, but it’s very pricey - best to take most things with you. Newspapers are available daily. We didn’t use the pool, so can’t comment on that, but it looked clean enough. The caravans don’t come with toilet paper, so thank goodness we packed some - it’s always better to be prepared. One of the highlights has to be the view from the restaurant - it’s stunning, overlooking the estuary and a perfect spot to watch the sunset. Bring binoculars if you’re into birdwatching; you’ll see a variety of birds along the waters edge when the tide’s out. The walks along the shore are lovely too, especially if you like a peaceful seaside stroll. All in all, it’s not the best park we’ve stayed at recently, but it served its purpose as a base to explore the area. The castle nearby is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the neighbourhood. Despite some annoyances, particularly with the noise and the price of food and drinks, we managed to enjoy our stay - just don’t expect total tranquillity, especially if you’re near families with young kids. The location, the views and the lovely clubhouse made up for quite a few of the downsides. Would we go back? Maybe, but only if we knew it’d be quieter and if we could find somewhere nearby to eat out instead of relying on the on-site restaurant all the time.

The caravan looked lovely, but honestly, it wasn’t properly cleaned. There were sweet wrappers under the beds and the plates and cutlery were quite grubby. Seems like the last guests didn’t leave it washed and staff probably missed a proper check. Not great!

We found the caravan a bit grubby and quite cramped, not really comfortable at all.

Overall, we had a good experience. The site was clean and warm, but quite isolated. Need a car.

Honestly, the caravan was quite basic but functional enough. We really could have done with a proper door curtain - the 4 hooks for a 6-berth just aren’t enough, not luxury, but simple stuff really!

Honestly, this place was a bit of a nightmare. The caravan was filthy, full of bugs and had holes in the door. The mould on the shower and curtains was pretty grim. The pull-out sofa bed didn’t even come with a proper mattress, which was a bit of a joke. Staff weren’t exactly friendly or helpful and the facilities left a lot to be desired. No beach, just a noisy train line running all night. Definitely not worth the money.

The trains were quite noisy and there was rarely parking near the caravan.

We stayed in this cosy caravan and loved how nicely it was set up. The beds were super comfy and it had all the crockery and utensils we needed. The central heating was a lifesaver during the bad weather. Perfect for three adults!

Our stay at Carmarthen Bay was lovely! The caravan was spotless, super comfy and well equipped, especially considering everything going on. The site was beautifully maintained. Definitely good value for money and a perfect base to explore West Wales with the family.

We were a bit disappointed because the previous guests had clearly ignored the no smoking signs, so the caravan still smelled of smoke. The cleaning team did try to freshen it up, but unfortunately, the smell lingered. Apart from that, the caravan itself was alright and we don’t blame the staff for it at all.

The caravan was fantastic, offering a lovely view of the Gower. The kids' room was really cosy and the disabled bathroom and shower worked perfectly. Our bed was huge with plenty of space around it. Thanks a lot!

At first glance, the exterior didn't impress us much, but once inside, it was a different story - lovely and cosy, super clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. We were just seconds from the beach too!

The ensuite was decent, though not ideal for brushing teeth because a shelf blocked the tiny sink. The twin room felt a tad tight for two adults, but perfect for just one. There were two washbasins and WCs, which was handy. Overall, quite okay!

Most of the staff were absolutely fantastic. Thank you ladies. I’ve given a five for the two young men who were rude and unhelpful.

We had an amazing time at Camarthen Bay. The location is stunning and there’s always something to do for the children, I would always pre book activities in advance to ensure we got a place. The staff are always helpful and friendly and there is always someone around to help. The beach is a stone throw away and so beautiful. I would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic holiday. I absolutely adore Wales and thought I would stay in a chalet in camathan bay this time. I loved every minute of it. At the end of the day if you love being remote and away from the rat race. This is the place to stay. Great for the children. A stones throw away from the beach. Yes you are on country roads and unfortunately there is a lot of that in Wales and that is what I love. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Cosy home from home chalets.

Staff are amazing upgraded us ASAP no problems

Beautiful holiday park would highly recommend staff are great clean place really nice and enjoyable

Great site. Only downside is the proximity of the train line, which to be fair after the first couple of nights even the 25 oil tankers and diesel engine didn't wake us.
