Newquay sits on Cornwall’s north coast, facing straight out into the Atlantic. Surfers bob off Fistral at first light, boats come and go below the Huer’s Hut, and by mid-morning the smell of pasties and sun cream drifts along the cliff paths. Visit Newquay counts a dozen golden beaches around the town, from sheltered coves to wide surf bays.
Most Newquay caravan parks sit just outside town, on farmland and clifftops a short drive from the sand. So the real question isn’t only static caravan or lodge. It’s which bay you want on your doorstep, and whether you’d rather have nightly entertainment, a hot tub on the deck or total peace.
We’ve picked seven parks from our listings for different kinds of holiday and compared their accommodation and facilities, closest to town first. We list holiday homes here, not touring or camping pitches.

Which Newquay caravan parks are closest to the sea?
All seven are within a quarter of an hour’s drive of town. Tap a column heading to sort the table.
At the four dog friendly parks, pets stay in selected holiday homes only, so tick the pets filter when you search.
Caravan parks Newquay families, surfers and dog owners love
5 mins by car | 2 miles from town | sleeps up to 6 | no pets | rated 4.6

Want to walk to the sand in flip-flops? This small, peaceful park is about 100m from Porth, which the park calls one of Cornwall’s safest swimming beaches. It takes families and couples only. Our listings have two coastal caravans here, the Rio and the Avonmore, each sleeping six with views over the bay.
Facilities are simple: a launderette from March to October and Wi-Fi at a charge.
8 mins by car | sleeps up to 8 | lodges | rated 4.7

Hendra is the big, award winning family park, set in 80 acres of landscaped parkland and family-run since 1972. Kids won’t want to leave. The facilities include:
- the Oasis indoor fun pool, with three flumes, a rapid ride, a water cannon and a toddlers’ pool
- an outdoor heated swimming pool from late May to late August, weather permitting
- Henry’s Playloft, Make a Bear, mini 4x4s and sea scooters
- daily shows with Henry and Henrietta Hippo, then live acts and theme nights in The Venue
- four eateries, including a fish and chip takeaway and the Always Sundae ice cream shop
The Meadow Lodges are 14ft wide, with private decking and daily Oasis passes. Hendra’s own holiday homes don’t take pets, and it has touring and camping pitches too, though we list the caravans and lodges. The park says it’s open until 16 November this year, with its Sparks Fireworks Festival from 7 November.
8 mins by car | Watergate Bay | sleeps up to 6 | no pets | rated 5.0

Here’s the surfer’s pick, and it isn’t a caravan at all. These one and two bedroom self catering apartments sit about 200 yards from Watergate Bay, where you’ll find kite surfing, kite buggying, wave skiing and surf lessons. Guests can also use the outdoor pool at Porth Veor, 2 miles away, from April to October, plus its bar and breakfast restaurant when the hotel’s open.
9 mins by car | Crantock | sleeps up to 10 | pets welcome | rated 4.4

Peaceful escapes are Trevella’s thing. There’s no bar, just fishing lakes (bring a rod licence), an adventure playground, a children’s play area, a games room, crazy golf and a mini mart, and the sand at Crantock is within walking distance. From 24 April to 16 September the heated outdoor pool and toddler pool open 10am to 5pm.
Holiday homes run from one bedroom homes for couples to three bedroom lodges sleeping up to ten, and up to two pets can come in selected homes.
10 mins by car | sleeps up to 12 | hot tubs | pets welcome | lodges | rated 4.6

Picture a long day on the coast, then the bubbles of your own hot tub as the sun drops over the fields. This former Best in Britain award winner sits in the North Cornwall countryside, and its Premier caravans, lodges and cottage come with outdoor hot tubs. The biggest home sleeps 12, which suits two families sharing.
- pool with a splash zone, sauna and steam room
- on site bar and restaurant, plus a pet friendly lounge
- archery, pottery painting and soft play
- Wi-Fi in every holiday home
Dogs are welcome in selected homes. Book activities ahead, as times vary through the year.
11 mins by car | sleeps up to 8 | pets welcome | rated 4.5

Sea views are the big draw. Perched above the waves, this park has the most holiday homes on our listings, 51 holiday homes with two or three bedrooms, and it keeps things relaxing and simple: crazy golf, a playground, an arcade, a fish and chip takeaway and a barbecue area. Up to two pets are welcome in selected homes, and the sand at Crantock is dog friendly all year.
12 mins by car | Holywell Bay | sleeps up to 6 | pets welcome | rated 4.3

Right next to the sand at Holywell Bay, where Poldark was filmed, Trevornick is a five-star park with a bit of everything. Play the 18-hole pitch and putt or par 3 course, cast a line in the coarse fishing ponds, then book a treatment at the Tranquillity Spa. Children have the Farm Club, soft play and an outdoor heated pool!
The holiday homes have surf-inspired “Beach Chic” interiors, and a dog walking field makes life easy with pets.
Which park suits your Newquay holiday?
- Family entertainment: Hendra, for the fun pool and nightly shows, or Trevornick for the Farm Club.
- Surfers: Beachcombers at Watergate Bay, or Trevornick for Holywell’s waves.
- Walk to the sea: the small park at Porth, about 100m from the sand.
- Peace and quiet: Trevella, which has no bar and fishing lakes instead.
- Hot tub breaks: Piran, where the Premier homes have their own. See every park with hot tubs.
- Dog friendly holidays: Crantock, Trevella, Trevornick or the hot tub park. Search all pet friendly parks.
- Big groups: up to 12 at Piran, or up to 10 at Trevella.
Matching your park to Newquay’s beaches
The main beaches have lifeguards in summer, according to Visit Newquay’s beach guide. Dog rules are the bit people get wrong:
- Dogs all year: Fistral, Towan, Great Western, Watergate Bay, Crantock and Holywell.
- Seasonal ban: Porth, 10am to 6pm from 15 May to 30 September.
- Restrictions: Tolcarne, so check before you go.
Fistral
One of the best-known surf beaches in Cornwall, Newquay’s famous surf spot faces west, so it catches the Atlantic swell and the evening sun, and it’s long and backed by dunes, with surf hire, lessons, cafes and a car park. In early August the free surf contest and beach village at Boardmasters set up here.
Towan and the town coves
Four coves sit in a row below the cliffs, Towan, Great Western, Tolcarne and Lusty Glaze, and at low tide they join into more than a mile of sand. Towan has gentler waves for little ones and a surf school. Tolcarne and Lusty Glaze are reached by steep steps.
Porth and Watergate Bay
Porth is the easiest to get onto, with a car park at one end and a gentle concrete slope at the other. Follow the coastal path out onto Porth Island. It’s worth it. A few minutes north, Watergate Bay runs for over 2 miles at the foot of the cliffs, right below Beachcombers.
Crantock and Holywell Bay
Across the Gannel estuary, Crantock is wide and backed by dunes, owned and cared for by the National Trust. You can walk there from town over the tidal footbridges at low water, or take the seasonal Fern Pit ferry in summer, but never wade across. Over the headland, Holywell is quieter, with big dunes and good bodyboarding, and Holywell Bay holiday park next door has a 300-foot waterslide.
Things to do near your holiday park
Newquay Zoo and Trenance Gardens
Rain on the way? Top of most lists of things to do in town, Newquay Zoo covers 13 acres of gardens with red pandas, penguins, meerkats, lemurs and Carpathian lynx. Booking online before 10am saves money. Next door, Trenance Gardens has a boating lake and the old Trenance Cottages, where the tearoom does a proper cream tea.
Blue Reef Aquarium and the Huer’s Hut
Walk the underwater tunnel at Blue Reef on Towan Promenade, then climb to the Huer’s Hut, a medieval lookout on the cliffs above the harbour.
Days out further along the coastline
Lappa Valley’s steam railway, sea safaris and Perranporth’s big beach, 8 miles south, are all easy days out. It’s a great base for exploring Cornwall, and our North Cornwall guide covers more attractions towards Padstow.
Getting to Newquay
- By car: take the A30 across Cornwall, leave it near Indian Queens, then follow the A39 and A392 into town.
- By train: GWR runs direct trains from Par, a ride of about 50 minutes. The hot tub park at Piran is near St Columb Road station.
- By air: Cornwall Airport Newquay is a few miles outside town.
Sharing a holiday home with another family makes a week by the sea far cheaper.
When’s the best time to visit Newquay?
Summer and Boardmasters
July and August bring the warmest water, full lifeguard cover and the crowds. Boardmasters ran from 5 to 9 August in 2026, with music at Watergate Bay and surfing at Fistral, so plan well ahead for that week.
September and the quieter months
September is the sweet spot, when the sea’s still warm, the swell picks up and the schools have gone back.
What to pack for a park holiday in Newquay
These parks are a short hop from each other, so you can stay at one and try a different bay of north Cornwall every day.
