Polperro is the Cornish fishing village people picture before they’ve ever been: a tight little harbour, whitewashed cottages stacked up both sides of the valley, lobster pots on the quay and lanes so narrow that visitors can’t drive in at all. It sits 4 miles west of Looe on the south coast of Cornwall. The South West Coast Path runs straight through it.
There’s no caravan park in the village itself. Instead, a ring of Polperro holiday parks sits on the hills just outside, several of them a few minutes’ drive from the Crumplehorn car park, with sea views and the coast path close by.
Below, we compare the holiday accommodation listed above and say which park suits which break, with Looe just along the coast as a bonus. If you’d rather be based there, see our guide to holiday parks near Looe.

Leave the car at Crumplehorn and walk half a mile down beside the River Pol, about 10 minutes. Smuggling peaked here in the late 18th century, when local merchant Zephaniah Job was known as the “Smugglers’ Banker”, and the Polperro Heritage Museum of Fishing and Smuggling tells the story from an old pilchard factory on the quayside. It opens from Easter to the end of October half term. Go crabbing from the wall at high tide, then hunt out the National Trust’s Net Loft and the Shell House on The Warren, a private home covered in shells. At low tide a strip of sand appears by the mouth of the fishing harbour.
Round the east side, steep narrow steps drop down to Chapel Pool, a tidal pool that isn’t suitable for buggies.
Head east on the South West Coast Path and in about a mile you’re at the cove at Talland, with rock pools and a beach café. Keep going for Looe. The official coast path walk between the two towns through Talland is 5.7 miles and graded moderate, and you can catch a bus back. Westwards, the path runs past Lansallos and Lantic Bay towards Fowey.
Boats leave the quay at high tide, and dolphins and seals are sometimes spotted offshore. Official boat trips land on the island nature reserve run by Cornwall Wildlife Trust, where grey seals haul out and seabirds nest. Dogs can’t go, and trips depend on the weather.
