Really enjoyed our stay here, the place was lovely and we’re already planning to return soon.

We had such a lovely stay at the cottage! The setting is perfect - super peaceful and really calming. The views of the farm and the horses were a real highlight. The owners were lovely, making sure we had everything we needed. Definitely a spot we’d return to for a quiet getaway.

Really enjoyed staying here, the place was spotless and the hot tub was just the best! Definitely recommend.

We recently stayed at this charming cottage and honestly, it exceeded our expectations. The space was really generous, especially the bedrooms and en suites, which were spotlessly clean. The outdoor area with the hot tub was a lovely perk and even though we were told it might take a while to warm up, it was perfectly fine from the start. We appreciated the little touches like the welcome pack, robes and slippers - made us feel really taken care of. The only tiny downside was the weather - it rained quite a lot, so we couldn’t enjoy the hot tub as much as we’d hoped. We’d definitely come back!

We had such a lovely stay! The cottage was spotless and super well-equipped, making everything so easy. The dog walks right outside the door were a lifesaver. The host was really friendly and quick to reply, which we appreciated. Meeting the farm animals, especially Penelope the pig, was a highlight. Can't wait to return, great value! Highly recommend.

We had a lovely stay at this cosy cottage nestled on a working farm, yet surprisingly private. Robert and Sharon are such warm, welcoming hosts, really made us feel at home. The place itself is massive and well-equipped, especially the kitchen and bathroom - everything you need. The bed was super comfy and the garden, with its dog-proof fencing and comfy furniture, felt like our little retreat. There are plenty of nice walks nearby and Thaxted's restaurants, like The Star and The Maypole, are worth checking out. We’d definitely recommend it!

We spent a week here in July with our two little dachshunds and honestly, it was lovely. The village of Thaxted is charming and the cottage itself felt really cosy. The hot tub was definitely a highlight, especially during those scorching days-it was cooled down just right for a refreshing dip. The hosts were super friendly and made us feel really welcome, even taking their dogs out to the fields each day. Being near Stansted’s flight path was quite fun to watch the planes land. Would happily recommend this place!

We recently stayed at The Little Potting Shed and honestly, it was a bit of a letdown. When we arrived, we were surprised to find that The Hide Bar and Cafe on-site was closed for renovations. This wasn’t mentioned anywhere in our booking confirmation or during any of the pre-arrival communications, which was pretty frustrating. It’s small details like that that can really impact your stay, especially when you’re counting on having the option to grab a drink or a bite nearby. The cottage itself was a decent size for the three of us-two adults and our medium-sized dog-and it’s definitely got that quirky, different vibe that drew us to it initially. There are some nice touches like fresh flowers on the table and a couple of small bottles of prosecco, which was a lovely surprise. The doggy bag and dish cleaning pack were also a nice gesture, though honestly, we’ve stayed in similar places with the same extras and didn’t think they were anything special. That said, the cleanliness was quite disappointing. The living room rug looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed in ages, which was a bit gross. The bathroom tiles were just disgusting-seriously, they needed a proper scrub. The sink splashback was covered in toothpaste splatters and what I can only describe as saliva marks from previous guests. The mirror was even worse, with what looked like dried-up bogey and blue toothpaste smudges on the frame. The shower tiles could’ve done with a good steam and scrub too. We followed the instructions and texted staff about these issues and they responded promisingly. A cleaner came while we were out in the afternoon, so we were hopeful things would improve. When we got back, the rug had been cleaned and looked fine, but the bathroom was still a mess-no real effort had been made. The mirror was just flicked with a cloth, leaving the same marks and the sink area could have been wiped down easily with some cleaning solution. We told staff again and they said HR was aware but didn’t offer any further solution. We ended up wiping the sink and mirror with water just to make it tolerable. Honestly, it’s baffling that basic cleaning wasn’t done properly in the first place, especially in today’s post-pandemic world where cleanliness should be a priority. We also noticed that the radiator in the living space and under the sink was leaking, but at that point, we just couldn’t be bothered to raise it anymore. It’s a shame because the place has potential, but the overall standard of cleanliness and the lack of communication about facilities being closed really marred the experience for us. We probably wouldn’t stay again, which is disappointing because the setting is quite nice, but cleanliness and transparency are key and those were lacking here.

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely cottage. The owners are genuinely friendly and went out of their way to help us with everything. The place itself is really charming, with its traditional half-timbered look and a lovely, powerful shower. The cosy kitchen and comfortable bed made it feel like a home away from home. Parking right outside was a real bonus and the walks to Thaxted were just perfect. Everything was spotlessly clean and well heated too!

We really had a lovely time staying here! Sharon and Robert were such welcoming hosts, making us feel right at home from the start. The place had everything we needed - super clean, comfy and secure for our dog Archie, which was perfect. The location was great for walks and visiting Thaxted and nearby villages was a real treat. Honestly, we left feeling totally refreshed and relaxed. Definitely recommend!

We just got back from a really relaxing four-night stay at this cottage. The owners are super friendly but not at all intrusive, which was perfect. The big fenced garden was great for our dog to run around freely. The place had everything we needed, including a fully equipped kitchen and we even enjoyed a BBQ one evening. The hot tub was fantastic! We’d definitely come back and already recommended it to friends. Thanks for a lovely break!

Date of stay: 13th December 2024
We stayed in a really comfy, well-equipped house that kept us cosy despite the rainy December weather. The bath was perfect and the shower was really spacious-such a treat! The place is right under a flight path, but honestly, it didn’t bother us at all. Perfect spot for dogs who dislike fireworks since it’s tucked away in the middle of nowhere. Thanks so much!

Waterlily Cottage really impressed us. The decor was charming and the bed super comfy, making it perfect for relaxing. The bathroom had a great shower over the bath and the little touches like the coffee machine and welcome pack were lovely. The hot tub at the back was definitely a highlight!

We stayed at The Little Potting Shed and honestly, it was just what we needed. The quirky vibe really made our trip special and the little treats for us and the dog were a lovely surprise. Only small gripe was the TV disconnecting sometimes in the evenings, but honestly, it didn’t ruin our stay at all. We’d definitely come back!

We absolutely loved this cosy little cottage! Perfectly tucked away but still near local shops and cafes. The hot tub was a real treat and the underfloor heating in the bathroom kept us toasty. Rob, Sharon and Bonnie made us feel right at home. Can’t wait to return!

We had a lovely stay in the cosy little potting shed. The extra touches really made it special. The only thing we’d tweak is the height of the bed - it was a bit high, but super comfy once we got in. Our dog was also a big fan. We’d come back for sure!

Lovely cottage, clean & all the facilities you need. Staff team very helpful and friendly. The Hide offers a tasty afternoon tea that we can recommend and dog friendly. Will definitely be coming back soon
Amanda
We had another fabulous break at Herons Mead, the cottage was lovely and very tastefully decorated. The staff are amazing and very helpful and The Hide restaurant and bar offers great food and service. We will definitely be returning.
Noel
Lovely cottage with excellent facilities, helpful staff on site and good local amenities, as an elderly couple with a small dog we found everything accessible, one suggestion for the shower/bath would be a non slip bath mat also a small table would be a good addition as we used the small outside table. The Hide cafe/bar on site is definitely worth a visit especially for Sunday lunch 5*(book a table) we also had a extremely good take away from there, overall highly recommend
Lloyd
5star accommodation ! Spotless and beautifully presented, fishing was good and the food at the Hide bar was fantastic with lovely friendly staff only downside was closing at 6pm weekdays 8pm fri and sat apart from that was a lovely break ! ?
Karen
Had a lovely weekend couldn’t fault anything really - beautiful accommodation - very clean - helpful friendly staff couldn’t recommend it more
Tanya
Very clean, modern and spacious. Fully equipped and welcome package for me and the dogs. Hot tub great and enclosed. A great location and able to visit Skegness and Mablethorpe with ease. Wish I would have stayed longer.
Deborah
Loved our stay at Red Robin 2, lots of room inside, a small outside area, but lovely hot tub! We had drinks in the Hide and an excellent Sunday Lunch there. Close to the coast.
Kevin
We didn’t know what to expect when arriving at Herons Mead. You see pictures and comments but until you arrive you are never sure. Well I can say without any shadow of doubt that this is a superb cottage and venue. Everything was first class, so clean, equipped to the highest order. The site was really beautiful, with ducks and geese as residents ? the restaurant/ bar also was first class. The meals were excellent and all the staff were so friendly and helpful. Finally the hot tub was a very welcome addition. As you can see we were more than happy at what was on offer at Herons Mead. Will be back next year, just got to decide which week.
Joseph

Fabulous stay,
Peter
It was lovely really enjoyed it thanks ?
Cheryl
Staff were lovely although, on Sunday we went to have just a few drinks as it was my birthday on the Monday but unfortunately she said they weren't allowed to serve just two people, alittle disappointed by that as in the visits book guest wrote that the staff couldn't do enough for them, even if we were to take the drinks back to the cottage with us, but I guess rules or rules.
Linda
Great weekend The Potting Shed was very quirky well designed and all you need. Site was very quiet and well set out
