Visitor Reviews of Glamp @ The Priory

Date of stay: 25th August 2024
We stayed in the plum pudding bell tent for four nights and it was just what we needed. The owner was super helpful, checking on us during those strong wind nights-really reassuring. The tent had everything we needed for cooking and eating and the beds were comfy. Just a heads up, it can get chilly at night, so packing extra blankets is a good idea. The solar panels aren’t perfect for charging phones, so bring a power bank. No facilities on site, but that’s part of the charm-total off-grid escape! Highly recommend for a peaceful break.

We stayed in this tent recently and overall, it was a lovely experience. The tent itself is really nice, with comfortable furniture and a good bed, though the sofa bed was a bit firm - but hey, that’s to be expected sometimes. The kitchen stuff had pretty much everything we needed, except for scissors, which we found a bit odd. One thing that could help is an extra shelf or two for storing guest food, as the little kitchenette doesn't have much space. Also, having a second ottoman for clothes would’ve been handy, especially for longer stays - one just isn’t enough for three of us over multiple days. The solar battery unit didn’t work too well after the first day, even with all the sunshine, which was a bit disappointing. Still, being off the grid with the kids for a few days was just what we needed and we really enjoyed our time there!

We really enjoyed our stay! The tent was spacious and super comfy, perfect for relaxing. The heat might have caused a bit of a smell from the compost toilet near the end, but it wasn’t too bad. Only other thing we’d suggest is adding a few more sharp knives for cooking. Would definitely come back!

The cottage felt really warm and comfy and we appreciated all the little bits provided. The weather was gorgeous, so we enjoyed the BBQ and fire pit. The compost loo took some getting used to though!

Really enjoyed our stay here! The place was lovely and we’d definitely come back. The compost toilet took a bit of getting used to, but no big deal overall!

Honestly, we wouldn’t suggest this place to anyone. It’s just not up to scratch at all. We had to cut our trip short and come back early, which was frustrating.

We really enjoyed our stay here! The place itself looked stunning and the beds were super comfy - we slept like logs. All the towels and linens were ready for us, which was handy. The kitchen was well-equipped with plenty of utensils and cutlery, making cooking easy. The little touches like tea, coffee, milk and biscuits were a nice surprise. The shower and composting toilet stayed pretty clean, though after a heatwave, the sawdust and air freshener weren’t enough to mask the smell completely. We skipped using the BBQ because it wasn’t very clean, but the fire pit was perfect for cooler evenings. Waking up to the farm views and seeing the horses was just beautiful-we loved sharing the space with them!

We had a lovely stay overall. The view from the place was absolutely stunning, waking up to the sound of horses was such a treat - really made us appreciate the countryside. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, which made us feel right at home. The cleanliness was pretty good; there were just a few dead flies behind the blinds, but nothing major. The compost toilet and shower are in the same block and after a couple of days, it did start to smell a bit, which was a bit of a downer. The outside could do with a fresh coat of paint, but we understand that’s tricky to do when there’s no one staying. Also, there’s a broken hinge door under the bed-still opens, but it’s a bit risky. Still, these are minor issues compared to the overall charm of the place. We’re definitely planning to come back soon!
Emily
We stayed at this place during a chilly December trip and honestly, it was perfect. The house had everything we needed, super cosy and warm which was a lifesaver in the rain. The bath was lovely and the shower was really spacious. The location is ideal if your dogs aren’t fans of fireworks, as it’s pretty remote. No noise issues from the flight path either. Thanks again!
James
We had a fantastic weekend here, exactly what we were after. The place really hit the spot and we’re already planning to come back. Our dogs couldn’t get enough of the underfloor heating and the garden - Luna even wagged her tail so much she strained it! Totally happy pups and humans, what more could you want? Brilliant stay!
Maxine
The cottage was just lovely, perfect for a peaceful getaway. The hot tub was a real treat! Owners were super friendly without being pushy. We really enjoyed it!
Emma
We had a lovely stay at this cottage! The place is really well looked after and fully equipped, making it super comfortable. The dog walks right outside the door were a huge bonus for us and our pups. The host was so friendly and quick to respond. Meeting the farm animals, especially Penelope the pig, was a highlight. We’ll definitely return-such great value!
Rajesh
We had a fantastic time staying here! The setting is really peaceful and private, perfect for relaxing. The owners are super friendly and always ready to help without intruding, which we appreciated. The hot tub was a great bonus after a long day of cycling around the area. One thing to note is that the cottage is quite close to Stansted’s flight path, so there’s quite a bit of aircraft noise. It took us a couple of hours to get used to it, but honestly, it didn’t ruin our break at all. We’d definitely come back!
Emily
We had a lovely stay at this charming cottage, tucked away on a working farm but still super private. Robert and Sharon are genuinely lovely hosts, making us feel very welcome. The place itself is really spacious, with a well-equipped kitchen and bathroom. The bed was so comfy that we didn’t want to get up! The garden, dog-proof and private with nice furniture, was perfect for relaxing. Plenty of local walks and some great restaurants in Thaxted too. We’d definitely recommend it!
Claire
We had a really lovely stay! Sharon and Robert were such welcoming hosts and made us feel right at home. The place had everything we needed-spotlessly clean, comfy and perfect for Archie. The location was superb, with loads of walks nearby and Thaxted and the surrounding villages are absolutely charming. We definitely left feeling refreshed and relaxed, so all in all, a great break for us!
Emily
We spent a week here in July with our two little mini daschunds and honestly, it was a lovely stay. The village of Thaxted is charming and our dogs loved making new friends. The cottage itself is really pretty and the hot tub was such a nice touch-especially during the scorching weather, it was cool and super refreshing. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, which made us feel right at home. We also enjoyed watching the planes come in since it's close to Stansted’s flight path. Would definitely recommend this place!
Emily
