We had a fantastic weekend away in early October. Lodge was comfortable, warm and clean. Good quality inside, and really comfy beds (very surprising!!).
Hot tub was amazing, and well needed after our family hike up Coniston Old Man.
One of the best breaks we've ever had, will definitely be returning, hopefully for longer next time!
Zobia, Bradford

Date of stay: 3rd September 2018
Lovely lodge great area for sightseeing, walks and cycling we enjoyed it very much if I had to say some pointersor suggestions it would just be small tweaks like the toilet roll holders were loose on the walls the toilet roll fell off a few times, the tv remote control needed the batteries replacing, some more towel hooks to hang up your bath towels maybe on the back of the spare bedroom door and some different hot tub towels (apart from your bath towels) would have been nice
Jane, Cambridge
Date of stay: 3rd September 2018
A pub in walking distance would have been the icing on the cake !

Donna, Kent
Date of stay: 16th July 2018
Lovely comfortable lodge, we were lucky enough to get the one at the far end of the site with the woodland behind which I was hoping for. Well equipped with towels and beds ready-made. A good shower and hot water when we needed it.
It would have been useful to have hooks on the walls in the bedrooms and bathroom and a bathroom bin and two of the interior doors would not close, but these were the only minor issues.
Mrs A, Scarborough
Date of stay: 16th July 2018
Fantastic! We would definitely visit again.
The lodge was in a lovely quiet location. Just what we wanted as a 'get away from it all' break. We took our 2 small dogs with us and they loved the walks. The hot tub was lovely and we were pleased to know it was cleaned and filled with fresh water before we arrived. We stayed for 3 nights but could have easily stayed a fortnight. We loved it and have recommended it to a friend who is going to book a stay also.

Lovely clean lodge, and staff were very helpful. Was a little smaller than expected, but there were only 2 of us, so plenty of room. Hot tub was excellent, lovely and hot & very clean.

A short 10 min drive into Coniston where there was plenty of selection of pubs to eat at, great for a weekend break.

Date of stay: 4th August 2017
Would be great if hot tubs were for every lodge. There's only me and my 9 yr old so holidays are pricey for just me and him. It would cost more again if I got a lodge with a hot tub which my son wants for next year
Patrik, Somerset
Date of stay: 4th August 2017
A great base for exploring the surrounding area. A very peaceful park. Shame nothing within walking distance, such as a shop or pub.

Would thoroughly recommend Crake Valley and the Bluebird lodge, the hot tub was perfect and kept my teenage daughter and her friend amused for hours!

Worth hiring a boat in Coniston and travelling around the lake - we travelled right down to where we walked to from the site it was lovely to see a different perspective on it.

Date of stay: 2nd June 2017
Beautiful lodge, a home from home, a few cobwebs here and there but you can expect that in the location.
Plenty of space for our two girls to play and the Hot tub was loved by all.

Date of stay: 26th May 2017
Woodland Retreat was a very comfortable lodge and in a great location this is the best pet friendly accommodation i have ever been in and is good value for money would not hesitate to return to Crake Valley.
Brian, Manchester
Date of stay: 19th May 2017
Nicely finished accommodation.
The furnishings and finishes were clean and modern.

Additional bedding was offered on arrival. Very helpful (katrina(?).

One very small point...... the wash basin in the bathroom is a modern rectangual shallow basin with integrated plug which looked nice....the problem was that you couldn't fill it up with hot water without letting it thro the overflow.

But - hey - if thats the only complaint I've got it isn't too bad! I would definitely stay here again if holidaying in the area.
Howard, Fordingbridge
Date of stay: 15th May 2017

Date of stay: 28th April 2017
The lodge was clean, well equipped and comfortable. The hot tub was a brilliant facility!
We would rather have had a dishwasher instead of the washing machine in the kitchen.
The Wi-Fi and TV reception was a bit patchy at times but that was probably due to the location.
John, Manchester/tyldesley
Date of stay: 10th April 2017
We loved our stay. The lodge was comfortable and peaceful with everything we needed in an ideal location. Our dog loved sitting out on the balconey as did we with a glass of wine in the evening. A comfortable and cosy cabin. The beds were very comfy and the bathrooms modern with hot showers. The hot tub was just amazing after a day's hiking.
Lisa, Teesside
Date of stay: 29th July 2016
The lodge was beautiful. If there is a downside at all it is that the 4 steps up to the lodge are made from a UPVC type material and slippery for the dog when wet.

Lodges are warm and cosy, even when it is cold at night. Useful to have a built in washing machine in the lodge. The master bedroom is spacious and has mirrored wardrobes. Good quality furniture and plenty of room to move around in the lounge area.

June, Cardiff
Date of stay: 25th March 2016
Nice quite small woodland park great for touring around the area.
Steven, Biddulph
Date of stay: 18th March 2016
Stylish accommodation, perhaps a little tight on the living area with an ok sofa and bucket chair and a fairly poor TV.
Main bedroom excellent with a great bed, second bedroom tight but only had 1 staying in it so no problem.
Splendid bathroom with a super shower but square toilet and washbowl rather form over function.
Kitchen area a little short on worktop space but well equipped.
Sticky door to veranda which we should have reported but never got around to, too busy enjoying holiday!
Admittedly a rather critical review that undersells the place really, overall it is a quite excellent place that I would not hesitate to recommend. So much so I've already re-booked.
Jennifer, Derby
Date of stay: 19th February 2016
Excellent accommodation, very clean and well appointed.

Annette, Watford
Date of stay: 17th October 2015
The accommodation was very clean and modern. Would love to return again.
Date of stay: 16th October 2015
Accommodation was very high spec with a great selection on kitchen utensils and crockery. We were a little disappointed in the size of the lodge as it was alot smaller than we were used to staying in with the living area smaller that a static caravan. Hot water in the shower was also luke warm and not a pleasant experience and were advised I was the hottest it would go.
David, Nailsworth
Date of stay: 10th October 2015
Crake Valley is in a superb location and ideal for visiting the Southern Lakes. Ideal for those who appreciate nature and those who want a cosy, intimate holiday - Butlin's it isn't. Danny, the Manager is extremely pleasant, welcoming and very eager to help. The accommodation is excellent and well furnished (thanks to Danny's partner, Carinna).
The site has recently undergone a lot of changes and full credit should be given for their achievements in a such a short period of time. A few minor tweaks and it's pretty much five star. Would highly recommend to anyone.
Corrie, Kettering
Date of stay: 9th October 2015
We are used to staying in older, shabbier accomodation when holidaying with dogs however the cabin was immaculate and beautifully furnished.

Beautiful cabin, very clean & perfect size for two of us. Only slight downside was beds were unmade on arrival so we had to do this ourselves & heating in bedrooms was insufficient - it was very cold!
Lorna, Fleckney Leicester
Date of stay: 18th September 2015
Excellent service and accommodation. Only slight issue the beds in the twin room were too close together
Elaine, Rishton Lancashire
Date of stay: 12th September 2015

Joanne, Bradford
Date of stay: 4th September 2015
The reason for not getting 10 out of comfort was the lounge seating was a bit neat you couldn't relax the small bucket seat and 1 2 seater sofa wasn't relaxing for a family of 4 it would be great for 2.
Date of stay: 3rd August 2015
The accommodation itself was more than acceptable; it was clean and furnished to a good standard; very comfortable with microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, 2 bathrooms/toilets, terrace to the master bedroom, verandah off the kitchen/diner/living area. The only disapointment was having to make up the beds ourselves although clean linen was provided as advertised.

The Holiday park was somewhat a building site; a fire was lit and left unattended; it appeared to have building waste on it; workmen were on site for at least 3 of the days; building materials were on site; it was not a safe environment for children with no separation of the 'building area' to keep inquisitive youngsters away; a new but unused large propane tank was 'parked' next to the lodge we occupied.

Very little for the children to do on-site; a walk up the hill proved difficult as the paths were overgrown; the Lake is across the road with some access to the shore if you walk through the woods; the reality is that you would travel to Coniston village itself to access the lake properly.

No facilities (pub, restaurant, shops) within walking distance.

When the buliding work (new lodge/s) is completed it will probably be nicer.

Not sure what has to be done to qualify for the David Bellamy award, the old oil drum in the ditch seemed to detract from it.
John, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Date of stay: 20th July 2015
Relaxing accessible environment. So close to the rest of the lakes and yet quiet and peaceful. Just what we wanted.

Date of stay: 3rd April 2015
The site is perfect for walking from without having to use the car all the time. We took bikes as well and made the short trip to Grizedale Forest, which is excellent for mountain biking. The lodge we stayed in was brand new and the interior was incredibly well specified throughout. We stayed in a king-sized bed and our children had their own twin room all with comfy high quality mattresses. The electric heating system was very effective making the lodge lovely and cosy. There was no metering like you can find in some places. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone wanting a quiet scenic break.

Danny was very welcoming- Thank you for the birthday card! The park itself is lovely and the caravans are well placed. It could do with a bit of modernisation here and there but overall very pleasant.
The only complaint we had were the bins, which filled up very quickly but didn't seem to be emptied and soon started overflowing. If it had been really hot weather, that would have been very unpleasant.
I was also glad we weren't near the camping areas, as one particular family were very noisy, quite late into the night.
I would definately recommend this park.

We booked last minute and managed to get a special rate. A very peaceful and well kept site placed within easy reach of the main routes needed to get you about in the Lakes. The site is a couple of minutes walk to the Coniston boat launch. The site manager was very helpful when we arrived and was on hand if we had needed anything (whilst keeping a low profile). The lodge was clean and comfortable with a lovely veranda where there was a table and chairs. The kitchen was well equipped and bed linen was included in the price. Plenty of information leaflets and booklets were available in the lodge and in a cabin outside as was a payphone (no mobile signal) No ball games are allowed by the lodges or caravans but an area is available for children to play and there is lots of exploring to be done!!!!!! We will certainly be returning to Crake Valley we came back feeling totally relaxed and refreshed.
A clean and comfortable lodge, nice quiet site, recommended
Good, clean and we'll maintained lodge, with the added bonus of of a hot tub. Located in a great area for walking and relaxing, well away from the town, but only a short drive... Should you need anything. Will be visiting again.
The most peaceful location to retreat to
Beautiful destination, friendly staff. We enjoyed it.
This was our second visit to Crake Valley and we will definitely be returning in the future! Great quality lodge and such a peaceful location.
Really nice holiday setting , lovely and quite only seen a couple of people the whole week we were there .A couple of miles walk to the nearest pub . Great location if you want peace and quiet and willing to walk distances to places .
Lovely location, quiet site.
Excellent value. Warm welcome from friendly staff. Very clean cabin. You are at the base of Coniston away from all the bustle but close enough to get anywhere in the Lakes. The night sky is spectacular. Lovely place to stay
Can't comment on the helpfulness of the staff as we didn't need to ask them for anything. The lodge was lovely, comfortable & clean, well equipped. Thought it was a bit cheeky leaving a note asking guests to strip the beds before they leave !
Stayed the week before Easter in The Oaks lodge, in my opinion the best situated lodge on the site with it's own parking space and private veranda which looked onto open grassland with a couple of regular visiting sheep and good private hot tub. This is a very quiet rural site so need to take your groceries with you which we always do [who wants to go shopping while on holiday] We intend to return and do a bit more walking and exploring the local area around Coniston Water when it's better weather.

Fun Days Out near Crake Valley

about 9 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.

Here at the Wildlife Oasis you can really get up close to the animals and experience a mix of exotic wildlife and hand son displays.  See butterflies, birds and even bats flying around.  You don't have to plan your visit according to weather either with the tropical hall and butterfly house undercover.  Sunny days are ideal for some of the inhabitants however with the monkeys and Lemurs loving to sunbathe.  The mission of Lakeland's Wildlife Oasis is to engender and foster an interest and appreciation of the natural world which, in our belief underpins wildlife conservation; and, where possible to contribute and encourage contribution to the conservation of wildlife and wild places.  You know that you are helping with this mission if you choose to visit.

Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.

This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.

Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.

We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...

Head for the Bowland Wild Boar park and we don't think you will be disappointed.  A popular attraction in Preston there is so much to do for the whole family.  From picnics, walks and wildlife to experiencing feeding the animals you are sure to have a memorable day out.  Also popular is the kids tractor play area.  For rest and relaxation the cafe is ideal serving hot drinks and snacks with a lovely view over the pond and wildlife feeding station.  The Forest of Bowland has been declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
