Bolingbroke Castle is a ruined castle in Old Bolingbroke, Lincolnshire. It was founded in 1220 by Ranulf, Earl of Chester, shortly after he returned from the Fifth Crusade. It is one of the earliest castles designed and built without a keep, relying instead on thick walls, five D-shaped towers and a twin-towered gatehouse.

Tip: Look for the lower walls and the ground floors of the towers, which are the main surviving parts to see.

Tattershall Castle is a National Trust property built in the 15th century by Ralph Cromwell, Treasurer of England. The Great Tower is an imposing red-brick keep with seven storeys, including the Parlour, Great Hall, Audience Chamber and Private Chamber. Some of the huge medieval fireplaces were once ripped out for sale abroad before being tracked down and returned.

August 2012

This was my second time here and me and my family really enjoyed ourselves. The staff were friendly and they put alot of effort for the entertainment on a night for the little ones. The facillities were a very good standard, there is so many activitites on site to do and about 5miles down road you have great yarmouth, its such a lovely place. The spot where the caravan was what I stopped in was brilliant,it was only a 2min walk away from mash and barrel and the amusments. The weather was gorgeous , couldn't have picked a better week and there are lots of lovely places to visit just outside of Caister. We will differently be going again soon.
