Really loved staying at lodge 81, such a great spot!
Oliver
Date of stay: 11th May 2025
We had a lovely stay at this cottage! The owners are genuinely warm and thoughtful, making us feel really welcome. The place itself is charming with its traditional half-timbered style and the shower is surprisingly powerful - a real treat after a day out. The bed was super comfy and the heating kept everything cosy. Parking right next to the cottage was so handy. Plus, the walks around Thaxted and the nearby windmill are perfect for a relaxing day out. Would definitely recommend!

We stayed at this place during a rainy December and it was just perfect. The house is super well equipped, warm and cosy-really appreciated that! The bath was lovely and the shower was a good size. The location is ideal for dogs, especially those who hate fireworks, since it’s in the middle of nowhere. The only thing to note is the flight path noise, but it didn’t bother us at all. Thanks a lot!

Underwear from previous occupants was still in lodge when we arrived. Furniture in a poor state. Just not what we would expect.

We had a lovely stay at Goddard's Mead. Rob, Sharon and Bonnie made us feel really welcome from the moment we arrived. The building’s been beautifully converted, keeping its historic charm, which we really appreciated. The location is perfect for exploring Essex’s charming villages and their interesting history. It’s a peaceful spot with everything you need for a comfortable break. We’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking to unwind and explore the area.

We had such a wonderful, chilled-out escape. The cottage was spotless and had all the essentials plus some lovely little touches. Highly recommended!

Date of stay: 4th April 2025
We had a really lovely stay at this good place. The peaceful, private setting was just what we needed and the hosts were genuinely welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. The hot tub was a real treat after a long day of cycling - such a nice touch! Only thing to note is that the cottage is directly under Stansted’s flight path, so there’s quite a bit of aircraft noise. It didn’t bother us after a while, but if you're sensitive, it’s worth keeping in mind. Overall, a great experience!

We had such a lovely time at Goddard's Mead. Rob & Sharon have really put a lot of effort into restoring this historic place and it shows. They greeted us warmly along with Bonnie, which made us feel right at home. The location is perfect for exploring Essex - we especially enjoyed wandering around Thaxted and nearby villages to soak up the history and admire the beautiful buildings. Definitely a place to come back to!

The cottage was just what we needed-quiet and tucked away, yet close enough to everything. The hot tub was a real highlight and the underfloor heating kept us cosy inside. Rob and Sharon were lovely hosts and Bonnie was adorable! Can’t wait to return for a longer stay!
Sarah

We had a really lovely time staying here! Sharon and Robert are such friendly hosts and made us feel right at home from the start. The place was spotlessly clean, comfy and perfect for our dog Archie - we felt totally secure. The location was great, lots of nice walks nearby and Thaxted and the surrounding villages are absolutely charming. Honestly, we left feeling so refreshed after our week away. Definitely recommend!

We stayed from the 27th of December to the 2nd of January and honestly, it was just lovely. We arrived in the evening with the kids, who were super excited and the place greeted us with a lovely smell and spotless cleanliness. The little touches like wine bottles and luxury toiletries really made it feel special. We enjoyed exploring the nearby walks and ended our days soaking in the warm hot tub - perfect for unwinding. We’d definitely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing break!

We just got back from a week at Goddards Mead and honestly, it was lovely! The cottage had everything we needed and felt super cosy. The hosts were so friendly, making us feel at home. Even being on a farm, it was peaceful and relaxing. Great stay!

We had a fantastic weekend stay here! The place really ticked all our boxes and we’re already planning to return. Our dogs had an absolute ball-especially with the underfloor heating and running around in the garden. Luna was wagging her tail so much she strained it, but she’s fine now. Everyone, pups and humans alike, left very happy!

We really enjoyed our stay at this lodge. The view was stunning and the welcome treats were a lovely touch. Any issues we had were sorted out swiftly. The only downside was waiting 40 minutes after check-in because our lodge wasn't ready. Still, a great experience overall!

Fantastic lodge with a beautiful view and welcome goodies were appreciated. The few problems with the lodge were dealt with quickly and efficiently. The only gripe was our lodge wasn’t ready and had to wait 40 minutes after check in time.

Date of stay: 26th February 2025
We stayed recently and found the place really lovely and spotless. Honestly, you wouldn’t even guess a dog had been in the bedroom, apart from a slight smell of dog wee. A few small things missing, like the TV remote and hairdryer, but the kitchen was fully stocked. The welcome pack was a nice touch too!

Date of stay: 18th February 2025
We had a fantastic week at this charming cottage in Thaxted with our two little dachshunds. They absolutely loved it, making loads of new friends in the village - they really felt at home. The place itself is lovely and the hot tub was a real highlight, especially during the scorching weather we had; it was cool enough to be super refreshing. The hosts are lovely and very welcoming, which made us feel right at home. It was also fun watching the planes land since the cottage is near Stansted’s flight path. We’d definitely come back!

Amazing stay. Will definitly go back again
Christine
We had a lovely 4 days, we got a text to say we could arrive early has the lodge was ready. The staff were very friendly and helpful anything you needed they were there in 5 minutes. Second visit will go again and stay longer next time.
Josh
The holiday was amazing, went there and stayed in the lakeside lodge for 3 nights. It was great, had someone checking the hot tub PH everyday, staff were really helpful and lovely to speak to. The bar/ restaurant was really good too, smaller than I expected but that was no issue at all. Really amazing place and lovely staff
Sarah
Had a lovely time. The lodge was fantastic. It would have been a 10 it is just a shame that they do not brush away all the cobwebs on the decking which have been there for quite some time. All the staff provided excellent customer service. The spa treatment was one of the best i’ve had. Overall a great experience.
Judith
Excellent site and accommodation
Peter
Lovely holiday, great location, we have been twice now, will go again sometime.
Louisa
Lovely, spacious lodge on a well kept, quiet site. Quality amenities especially very warm swimming pool. Professional, friendly staff. A great family holiday!
Louisa
The only thing I would suggest is that the site could do with a little shop , it’s quite a walk ( downhill , up in way back ) to any kind of place you could get soft drink or snacks that doesn’t involve the prices in the restaurant bar Lovely relaxing location , gorgeous accommodation and helpful friendly staff My only negative was whilst I appreciate we were staying around the fishing lake and so there would be people around using this I would suggest those that pay to camp at the lake overnight are asked not to set themselves up directly outside occupied lodges My daughter and I had a man set up his tent about 10 meters from our front door and he was there for 24 hours , this made us uncomfortable to be out on the patio ( especially when using the hot tub ) and made me very security conscious overnight , there was plenty of other places around the lake he could have set up
