With a spectacular location right in the heart of Cornwall, this is a first class holiday park with a tranquil and "away from it all" feel.  If you love nature then you'll be in your element here with the well known Camel Trail just a 5 minute cycle ride from the park.

Ruthern Valley will really appeal to families looking for a relaxing holiday base but who want to be close to various attractions for days out.  Of course the glorious, sandy beaches in this area are ever popular and the Eden Project is within easy reach too.

Facilities on the park itself include WIFI access in designated areas, a shop and laundrette.

Accommodation is a selection of caravans, bungalows and log cabins.  The Ruthern Lodges are a nice choice and also come with a timber decking area to make the most of the outdoors. We also recommend the Padstow Woodland Edge bungalow which sleeps up to 4.

This holiday park has been awarded the Gold David Bellamy Award for Conservation.

Fun Days Out in North Cornwall

Newquay Zoo

A trip to the zoo is the highlight of many holidays and Newquay Zoo is a very impressive one. There are hundreds of animals to meet ranging from the cute and cuddly to the creepy and slimy. Children will love the animal encounters, penguin pool and Tarzan trail and there is also a play area. The site also has oriental and exotic lakeside gardens with picnic areas and a café and gift shop.

Holywell Bay Fun Park

This attraction is ideal for families with children of different ages. Older kids will love the climbing wall, Go Karts and laser shooting while the younger ones can run of some energy on the play area or enjoy a ride on the bumper boats. The site is also home to Cornwall's largest Pitch and Put and a huge maze.

The Monkey Sanctuary

This haven for monkeys is located in beautiful woodland affording views over the gorgeous Cornish coast. There are 4 breeds of monkey cared for at the sanctuary, which has been open since 1964. The whole family will enjoy meeting the cheeky monkeys and the educational talks offer visitors the chance to learn about their natural habitat and the dangers they face in the wild. There is also a gift shop, café and picnic area.

Paradise Park

Paradise Park first opened back in 1973 as a tropical bird garden and has since expanded to offer refuge to many different species of animal. The park aims to provide a fun and educational experience to its visitors and has daily talks and events to offer a more hands on approach. Playful otters, rare Cornish Chough, shy Red Pandas, and the beautiful native Red Squirrels can all be seen. There is also a fun farm area where younger children can get creative with crafting sessions during school holidays. The recent addition of the indoor Jungle Barn makes Paradise Park an excellent all weather attraction.

Flambards Experience Cornwall

This amazing family day out has it all.  From thrilling rides for kids and adults alike, as well as award winning gardens to stroll around this is one experience not to be missed.  Some of the highlights include the Wildlife Experience Animal Show and the undercover re-creation of a World War II blitzed street.  Open most of the year this is an all weather choice with plenty of indoor options for rainy days. You will find the Flambards Experience in Helston Cornwall.

Dairyland Farm World

We have selected this attraction as one of our favourites in the Cornwall region as it appeals to children of all ages.  You can really get a hands on experience at this farm with the opportunity to stroke, feed, cuddle and learn about the animals.  Located in Newquay in Cornwall this Farm is easily accessible and well worth a visit.

The Eden Project

The Eden Project is a must visit attraction while in Cornwall offering a unique and educational as well as fun experience. While exploring this greenhouse - the largest in the world, visitors will take in some amazing sights and sounds as well as smells of the jungle. The green house has areas dedicated to Malaysia, West Africa and South America. There is also a magical Warm Temperate Biome housing plants from the Mediterranean, South Africa and California. As well as the exotic and the strange visitors also get the chance to learn about the plants and trees we see every day in the UK.  Throughout the year activities are also available onsite and this year they have included an exhilarating 450m zip wire ride! For younger children there is an adventure play area with wooden ship and sand pit to enjoy.

Trethorne Leisure Park

Trethrone Leisure Park in Cornwall is a popular choice for a family day out and offers an excellent programme of activities for children all year round. The park has a farm area where younger kids will love feeding the lambs and other friendly animals. Pony rides, a large play area, ball pool; trampolines and crazy golf are also available.

Lost Gardens of Heligan

The amazing Lost Gardens of Heligan are one of Cornwall's most popular attractions and offers arrange of activities for adults and children. Besides the beauty and unique atmosphere of the gardens there are also organised events to enjoy throughout the year including a Harvest Display, Wild Food Walks, Halloween and Christmas celebrations and Book Signings.

Wonderful lodge very clean had everything we needed. Only slight point to improve would be that the beds and chairs are very firm, would have preferred something a little softer

Larches Lodge has a very unique setting. I believe it would appeal to families with young children, courting couples or families that has lived life experiences and would like to escape for awhile. A very pleasant recharging base.

The WIFI was excellent and reliable so although isolated, we were still able to keep in touch with the outside world

The accommodation was clean and well appointed; satisfying basic needs and welcoming. A compact space set within the proximity of gentle streams giving it a feel of seduction that shuns fast cars, traffic lights and crowded subways.

An almost detoxing experience that leaves good memories.

Accommodation was comfortable and perfectly adequate for our needs, the only issue we had was an over sensitive fire alarm when cooking. I'd also recommend bringing a larger frying pan, especially if you're a family!
Probably the most relaxing holiday we've had, we'll definitely visit again.

Our holiday was calm and peaceful, just the way we like it. When I left school I joined the military, trained in Exeter and was involved in many exercises in the area so it was very nostalgic. We loved the idea that there were no street lights on site or in the vicinity which added to the charm and seclusion. Living in London is fine for the style of life one subscribes to but it is far from private. If you would like to visit your innermost self, then I would recommend Ruthern Valley.

Beautiful place run by very nice people, couldn't fault it

We stayed at a Larches Lodge for 7 nights 24/11 - 01/12, 2017. By night number three we had booked again for next year. We were looking for a getaway from it all escape for our anniversary and we got an incredibly peaceful lodge spotlessly clean, lovely and cosy and well equipped with everything you need bar towels which we knew about anyway. Beds made up on arrival with spotless linen and when we got there the cabins more than sufficient heating had been turned on ready for us. Kitchen comprises of a four seater table, full size electric oven with hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, cutlery, utensils, cups, glasses, plates, dishes, pans, oven dishes etc (supply your own tea towels). Lounge comprises of 2 seater sofa bed, 2 tub chairs, lamp + table, coffee table, flat screen TV with freeview and wireless internet throughout the site, large patio doors looking out onto decked area (excellent for wildlife watching). Bedroom 1 comprises of double bed, two large bedside cabinets, single wardrobe, spotless beds made up on arrival with 4 pillows & quilt. (Very comfy) Bedroom 2 comprises of two regular sized single beds, wardrobe and bedside cabinet separating beds. Good sized room far better than any caravans we stayed in. Bathroom comprises of bath with overhead shower, WC & washbasin. Spotless again. Lovely outdoor area with decking to front with picnic table and a covered walkway to side. Handy for our very british unpredictable weather & bird watching. Lodges vary very slightly so don't use this as a checklist. We were in Lodge 2. Lots of wildlife around with plenty visiting Jays, nuthatches, woodpecker and many more common garden birds. The vast majority of the time we didnt't even notice other people on site staying at the same time. Bliss. The owner came to visit after we had settled to check we were happy and everything was working correctly and we were happy. Lovely touch thank you. Well equipped shop on site. Very sadly we had to leave a day early due to family issues but my husband and I have decided to make this our anniversary retreat as this really is a little gem of a place to stay with easy access to the rest of Cornwall should you wish to explore.

Peaceful site in beautiful wooded valley off the beaten track, just over a mile from the Camel Trail (from Grogley Halt it's 3miles to Wadebridge and 4 miles to Bodmin). Ideal for walkers, cyclists and runners or just to get away and relax for a few days. Perfect base for exploring Cornwall and close to Bodmin Moor.
Carole
Fantastic site, fabulous owners.
Joyce
A lovely haven of tranquility away from the hustle of work! The weather was against us but we still enjoyed our time at Ruthern Valley and aim to return some day.
